I hope you have a great trip. I'm jealous!! I've made two trips recently for distillery tours and they're a lot of fun and everyone's very nice. The Buffalo Trace hardhat tour is exceptionally worthwhile.

I recently returned from the hardhat tour (Thanks Fred!) and it really is great. It changed my perspective on the distilling operation. The smell of the corn cooking, the white dog running off the column still, the wharehouse full of barrels. It just happened to a be a gorgeous spring day too, which was icing on the cake.

If you make it to Bardstown, be sure to visit the Bourbon museum. An amazing collection of old bottles and information.

And I see that you're from Modesto. I had an aunt who lived there for over 50 years (she passed away 2 years ago) and her daughter still lives there. Small world! Iron Mountain, on the other hand, is far, far away from here.

I am heading out to Bourbon Land on Wednesday. Driving from California through Nevada, Wyoming, Nebraska, Mizzouri, and straight into Bardstown.

Any recommendations on liquor stores to stop at on the trip? I 80 to Lincoln, NE then down through St. Louis east to Bardstown.

If anyone is interested in any of the following: Wild Turkey, Dickel, Bulleit, Beam, Makers Mark, Jefferson Reserve, Old Grandad. Unfortunately all new stuff and no JD. ugh!! IMO

I've never been there but based on their web site (under the name "Internet Wines and Spirits") I would pay a visit to Randall's Wines and Spirits, just across the bridge from St. Louis in Fairview Heights, Illinois, at 10800 Lincoln Trail.

They also have a store in St. Louis at 1910 S. Jefferson St.

Dave, if you're going to be in Bardstown for any length of time head up to Louisville and check out one of the Liquor Barns, Evergreen Liquors, Westport Whiskey and Wine or Party Mart.

Well I made to Buffalo Trace Friday & sure enough Fred was our guide for the day. The walk through the distillery was great. Plenty of info from Fred and an upclose look at the workings which gets the bouron into our glass. During the tour I thought I had walked into a beer tent at the Oktoberfest when we reached the top of the fermentation vats. And the smell inside of the warehouse; Oh man!

BT is definitely a great distillery to visit and hopefully you'll have Fred for your tour because he was a very nice gentleman to meet.

I took the "hard hat" tour a few years back after a business meeting with the supply chain folks at BT. I was blown away with the access they gave us behind the scenes. I had only been on brewery tours up to that point and really wasn't into whiskey.

I've told everyone I now to hit this tour up. I went back through some pictures the other day to see what they were bottling, Lot B and Blanton's!

As stated before, I love the tours at BT. Especially with Fred as the tour guide. Last week at the KBF, I went on a tour of BT with all SB members. Fred was our tour guide. (Who else? ) A good time was had by all. Fred once again did his usual fantastic job, despite some people giving him a hard time. Thanks again Fred. Keep doing what you're doing. Joe

When I get back from Iraq the wife is picking me up in Columbia GA for a leisurely drive back to Missouri with a swing past Buffalo Trace. Will you be doing tours the week between Christmas and New Years? If so we'll see, would like to do the hard hat tour if we can.
