First day back to work after a week's vacation.

I am hurtin', so Old Grand-Dad 114 neat should heal me up.

WLW SR . . . I think I may be losing my taste for this . . . it's been hitting my palate as bitter lately . . . nice woody finish, though . . . best finish in a $13 whiskey for sure (tie with Old Ezra). One thing is that it makes an excellent prelude to the . . .

LOT 'B' I plan to pour . . . right now, in fact.

Cheers!

Just polished off a small (1oz) neat pour of ETL...I was telling myself I wasn't going to open it for awhile...that really lasted. :D Sweet and smooth from the get-go, with a rather prominent licorice note in both the nose and the palate, with a peppery finish that lingers a long time. The flavor is unlike any other bourbon in my meager stash (ETL, MM, KC, Weller SR, WT101.)

This past weekend I tried to make my first Manhattan. I have never had one and I figured I could just make one to see what they are all about. I tried it with WT 101, WYRR rye, Makers Mark, and Jim Beam rye. I tried it with a 3:1 and a 4:1 bourbon to vermouth ratio. After all my attempts I don't like Manhattans. Oh well just straight bourbon for me.

Ritt BIB for me tonight! I may have to grab a nice pour to toast the fact my mom was told she doesn't need to wear the neck brace any more (she had a broken neck)! Things are looking great!

Glad to hear it, Tony! Last night I toasted your mom's health with some Weller Special Reserve and some current Rare Breed while I watched the Celtics pull out that tough OT win. I know that the older Turkeys are much better, but I have a hard time finding fault with the WT-03RB.

Got into my Bardstown haul tonight.

Started off after work with some 4 Roses Small Batch. Then I had to crack a VW 10/107 which I cant seem to keep in the bottle.

Feeling wry tonight I decided to have some OGD 114. It's not doing anything for me, very musty smell and taste. I'll have to choke down the rest of my pour.

Last night it was a healthy portion of EC12 followed by an equally healthy portion of Old Ezra 7/101. Both of these pours are very enjoyable . . . especially for the price . . . Old Ezra follows the EC12 quite nicely.

In the colder months, at least this year, I had been drinking mostly straight Bourbon (lots of Buffalo Trace) and heavy beers such as stouts and porters*. Now that it's spring, I've been turning to more cocktails. Woodford is my go-to base spirit for many Bourbon cocktails. I love it in Manhattans and Mint Juleps. My favorite drink, however, is the Old Fashioned and I prepare mine with Booker's. It's got some heat, but ohhh maaaan, I love it.

* Somewhat related, Elevator Brewing in Columbus, OH features a seasonal brew called the Barrel Aged Porter. One of the brewers used to work for Early Times, so when they make this beer, they trek down to Kentucky to pick up some used barrels from Early Times, and then age the beer in it for a period of time. It's delicious.

Wild Turkey Kentucky Legend 101, neat.

I've asked it before and I'll keep on asking until I get an answer.

What did I do to deserve such good bourbon?
