Having a neat pour of Old Fitz BIB, my first SW dusty. Lots of pecan and caramel and thick oily corn mouthfeel...this is some rich whiskey! I'm really enjoying this.

Powers Gold Label to start things off.

Now enjoying Old Potrero 18th Century 124.6 proof. This is completely new terrain for me, but I'm starting to dig it. Interesting concept: a very young whiskey overall, 100% rye mashbill aged in toasted oak barrels and bottled at barrel strength. The first pour was a major shock and had me questioning WHY I paid $70 for this bottle. But now that its gotten some air and mellowed out I often find myself craving a bit when I look over my bunker.

I don't think Old Potrero will appeal to the average bourbon lover, or anybody else dedicated to exploring a single category. But if you like trying as many different spirits as possible, and tend to enjoy whiskey the most, you'll probably find something enjoyable here.

Mamba, I have the same OP. Try it with a drop or two of water - you may be surprised at the difference.

We went to The Ark in Ann Arbor last night to see Siegel Schwall Blues Band, btw Sam Lay was with them on drums.

Before we went in we had a drink at a bar next door.

I asked for a Wild Turkey on the rocks and the waitress said they didn't have it so I said your "well' bourbon will be fine.

I sipped it and it tasted odd, I was expecting Beam but it wasn't and I couldn't finish it.

When I got the bill it stated well bourbon and the waitress said, I charged you for well but got the bartender to give you Jack Daniels.

I didn't complain because she was so sweet and thought she did me a big favor.

Bulleit on the rocks when we got home.

Wow, It's been years since I thought of them. I bet that's a great show... I never saw them play but have a few of their records from years ago.

I just had a few friends over and we tried Old Bardstown 10, WT 8 101 from 97, VW lot B, Dallas Dhu Scotch 27 yo 1975(yummy candy shop) and Rosebank 15 1991. Washed down with a bit of beer, Sierra NV Pale Bock, Summerfest and Mendocino Trad Bock.

Cheers,

RW

Had a great bourbon weekend. Friday was 4RSB, Saturday was 4RSB & Willet SB Pot Still and finished off the weekend with a slug out of my family-sized EC 12. Deeeelightful.

Sounds like you had fun! Besides my obvioiusly delightful foray into Dr. Entropy's lab, I had some very nice tasting this weekend as well . . . Friday night it was OGD 114 followed by Buffalo Trace (which I often forget how good these two are) . . . Saturday it was around the world in wild, wild Westbrook . . . they yesterday a couple modest pours from the Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye I was given, a little more Buffalo Trace and I killed the dregs of a Julio's Elmer T. Lee and a slope shoulder OCPR.

I too had a couple of Sunday night pours of FRSB while listening to Animal Collective's latest (picked up upon Andy's recommendation) and Built to Spill's Keep it Like a Secret. Made for a relaxing evening.

I usually take a sip of the FRSB neat, then sip the rest with a splash of water.

BT with a cube of ice...I really like this bourbon for an everyday pour!

Joan and I took a long weekend trip to eastern and southern Kentucky to celebrate our anniversary. In one of the last wet counties we passed through, we stopped at a small liquor store. I spied a lonely WTAS on an upper shelf that I was able to "adopt" it (at a discount!).

We watched the sun set over the Appalachias while sipping this example of the distillers art and reminiscing about the wonders of the last 24 years.

Switched over to ORVW 10/90...another very good daily pour! This is a good bit different from the BT...smokey/petey in comparison. I'm slowly working my way up to the ORVW 10/107 and my bottle of PVW 15yr.

Sipping some Old Forester BIB tonight...I'm finding it to be rich and robust with an almost-buttery mouthfeel, big molasses notes in the palate with a peppery spicy fade. I'm still sorting out the nose...I get molasses, but a couple other things I can't put my finger on descriptively just yet. Definitely a hint of apples and corn as it sits and opens up. This is darn good bourbon.

The tastebuds were switched on last night so I ran with it.

OGD 114 neat to start then a Bookers with a splash of water. Finished up with 2 pours of WTRR101. Being a school night I managed to exercise some self control and called it quits
