I'm in Corpus Christi for 2 days on business, and found a nice store that has most of the Van Winkles and every one of the BTAC (first time I've ever seen a full collection of the BTAC on a shelf). I picked up an '08GTS and a Handy. I have one of the '07GTS open at home, but I've never tasted the '08, and I've never ever tasted ANY of the Handy at all.

Gus - The Handy is one of my favorite of the BTAC offerings. It's a great Rye and tons of flavor.

An AH Hirsch gold foil for the bunker....If Priess can get $1500 for this in a "limited edition" I may be able to trade it for something I want down the road:lol:

For those of us lucky enough to live in Illinois we have been blessed with a 90% increase in tax on liquor that goes into effect on Sept 1st. In lue of this I made a couple purchases today to beat the tax increase:

2 BTAC ER17 Fall 2008

1 BTAC William Larue Weller Fall 2007

1 BTAC George T. Stagg Fall 2008

1 Elmer T. Lee Binny's Barrel Select

1 Weller 12 year Binny Barrel Select

1 1.5L Jeramiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka (for hot summer nights)

I'm definitely done for a couple months...this purchase tapped out the funds...hopefully I'll either win the Mega 325mm jackpot tonight or I'll win something in Vegas next month. If I win the Mega I can pretty much guarantee that I will cause a shortage of bourbon in the midwest!:)

Got the 2009 OFBB.

And Weller 12 finally reappeared on the shelves so I grabbed a couple. (Just in time, I was down to my last bunkered bottle.)

Great haul, brother. That's a lot of serious bourbon. When are you having us all over?

Tomorrow night to be chilly in OH--high 40's--so I might wait to break out the pap until then. Its just begging to be uncorked NOW though:slappin:

While I shouldn't have, VA just started carrying the FR SmB and it was on sale today for $29.....so that bottle made it to the bunker.

I couldn't resist driving by Binny's I stopped and picked up another bottle of George T. Stagg Fall 2008 and a 1.75 of Gentleman Jack. I know what you're thinking but it's a good end of the night drink. ;)

I just purchased my first bottle of Old Forester Signature. I used to really enjoy the old bottling of OF 100-proof, so I hope I like this one as well.

I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase. I've always got a 1.75L bottle of the Old Forester Signature on hand and everyone I introduce to it takes to it like a duck to water.

I think you will like this one, Tim. It is bourbon, as bourbon should be. It's real...bourbon. Maybe, not on par with the old OF 100 proofer. But, dang good, nevertheless.

BTW, did you get that in the Bama ABC store?

Yes, they had a few new offerings (although I think they've had the OFS for a while). I saw Buffalo Trace and Russell's Reserve. Both were priced too high for my current budget. The BT was about $33 and the RR was about $35. I got the OFS for $19, a relative bargain.

Ouch, $33? BT (store single barrel) here is $19, and the normal BT is $18-20. $25 if the store is REALLY expensive...

Today was mostly a microbrew day, but I did pick up a bottle of WT 101 for $19. This is going to be the first time I've had this since being of a legal drinking age, looking forward to it.

I'm kicking myself for not picking up a bottle of George Dickel No. 12 for $13.

Can anyone recommend I go back and try it?

I don't recall what I last paid for Dickel 12 but that seems like a pretty good price. Regardless I like Dickel 12 and I usually have a bottle of it on hand.

Of course. Try everything at least once! $13 for the Dickel is a good price. I wasn't knocked out by it but it's a perfectly "pleasant" pour and one that I enjoy when I just want an easy sipper that I don't have to give any thought to while drinking it. Some folks here love it, so check it out. And enjoy the WT 101. It's a solid "traditional" bourbon and definitely one that belongs on your shelf.

I made a last trip to Jewel and Binny's today as I'm going out of town for the week...when I get back Illinois will have imposed their BS liquor tax increase. I light of this I'm offically boycotting any liqour purchases for the balance of this year in Illinois as a small way of trying to stick it back to the man! I did pick up a couple more things for the bar...not all bourbon though!

A 1.75 of Kettle One, 1.75 of Smirnoff, Bacardi Lemon, JB Black, BT, 1.75 Gentleman Jack, and a Club soda...:D

I have the bunker built up to over 50 bottles plus the 16 open on the bar so I should make it until my self imposed ban is up! ;)

I haven't had an Old Weller Antique 107 in a while so I stopped today to pick one up.

It is in a new bottle and label.

The bottle is the same one that WLWeller 12yo uses.

The label is hard to describe, the top part has,...

Old Weller

Antique

Then the bottom part looks like a greyish torn paper that states the other info.

And under that it says, "The Original Wheated Bourbon"

Question, wasn't Old Fitzgerald the original wheater?
