I haven't had an Old Weller Antique 107 in a while so I stopped today to pick one up.

It is in a new bottle and label.

The bottle is the same one that WLWeller 12yo uses.

The label is hard to describe, the top part has,...

Old Weller

Antique

Then the bottom part looks like a greyish torn paper that states the other info.

And under that it says, "The Original Wheated Bourbon"

Question, wasn't Old Fitzgerald the original wheater?

I believe the phrase "The Original Wheated Bourbon" is a BT trademark. Supposedly goes back to 1849 and William LaRue Weller. I think Old Fitz was oriiginally a rye bourbon --- prior to Pappy Van Winkle buying it.

Haven't seen the new bottle / label. Can you post a picture?

Picked up one of these today...passed on the last one...this time I wasn't strong enough to resist! I'm sure when I get home I'll get some of this :smiley_acbt: from the wife.

I assume you realize (if that's a picture of your actual bottle:skep:) that that's one of the original, pre-lawsuit bottles which were supposedly 'recalled', right?

If you dare open it, it's exceptional whiskey, much better than the re-brand is today.

Tennessee was one of only three markets where it had been introduced before the lawsuit ended, so I picked up quite a few, and enjoyed several. Now, of course, they're "collectibles". Waste of good bourbon, as far as I'm concerned.:hot:

Visiting friends in Franklin, TN I picked up:

Willett 8, 13, and 19 yo

OFBB 2008

BT exp course and fine grain

I look foreward to cracking open these. tim

Did you drive into Nashville and visit Frugal McDoogal's for the BTEC, or is Red Dog still getting 'my' allotment? (Frugal's originally got ALL the BTEC sent to Middle Tennessee, but Bard's store was closer to me and I got tired of FM's poor communication, so asked Kris Komstock to direct some bottles for me to Red Dog after each release. But, then, I quit buying them after the Chardonnay-finished ones, so haven't paid attention to who's still getting them.) Or, has another store -- Cool Springs, perhaps -- horned it?

just found a bottle of 10-18-96 1996 Evan Williams Single barrel. I am thoroughly impressed and hope I can find another bottle of it somewhere. most everyone around here has 97 or later.

The BT EXP was indeed from the Cool Springs area. JPS was reported to be arriving within the next 2 weeks there. It was nice to be able to talk to staff that had a decent knowledge of bourbon. tim

Yup...that's the reason that I bought that bottle and passed on some other good finds. I most likely won't open it right away...I'm going to try to locate another one to open...that's the good part in traveling a lot for work...there are a lot of liquor stores across the southern states! :)

Traveling around over the last two days, I picked up a badly needed refill of a 1.75 BT. Also, some Old Charter 12, ETL, Weller 12, and 3 bottles of 2002 OF Birthday Bourbon. With every bottle I bought, I kept silently asking myself, "Why are you buying this, when you know you're going to blow the wad in the Motherland in 2 weeks, for KBF?" Well, to be honest, I didn't ask myself that, as I tackled the three OFBB's. There was NO question those were comin' home with me.

I didn't buy any whiskey today. Instead, I plotted what I would buy if I weren't working. the PVW20 I spotted for 79.99 is hot on my mind, but I don't want to cough up that much money (I know it's a good deal!), and I don't want to have to explain it to my wife.... :stickpoke:

There is an ABC here that has a couple bottles of Lot B for 37.99 each, and I thought about buying a bottle of that. I'm out of ERSB, which is my typical go-to whiskey because I can get it for 25ish after tax. So....

Too many whiskies. :( Not enough time....

At these prices you should have some serious purchasing in your near future. I'd be grabbing all the Lot B I could find at $38/bottle and take a few PVW 20 to boot.

2 Weller 12's an OGD 114 and a regular ole Old Fitz BIB.

The OGD has an 05 on the bottle so it might qualify as my first real dusty that wasn't purchased off the "e" word.

Grabbed a couple of Weller 12s for the bunker.

Now that it's back on the market (albeit in limited distribution) I don't want to take a chance of running out.

Today was the first day I put forth a good effort to find some dusties and/or interesting new bourbons. That effort has me thinking that the Kansas City area has little to offer compared to areas other members hunt.

The Old Fitz BIB and Old Fitz VS appear to be current bottlings to me but I don't really know. The BIB is either 06 or 90 on the bottom of the bottle and the VS says "bottle made in Canada" and '7' on the bottom. The VS was $30 and the BIB was $19 which seems like a fair deal for a liter of anything decent. The VS came with a box which always doubles the bottle's worth:rolleyes:

The Weller 12 and 107 are my favorite bourbons so I was happy to find this one for $36. The bottom is confusing to me but I think it's a 2000. The bottom reads like this:

8f

6 88

00

And at the bottom corner it says 6 88 again.

Since I'm a novice, I would appreciate if anybody could tell me anything about these bottles.

One of these days I'm going to take a 3 day weekend and hunt the Promised Lands of KY and TN!

I have 2 of those on my bar (the VS and the BIB). I turned down the Weller 12 yr old in favor of a dozen Centennials a while back.... wish they were around now though as there aren't many wheaters other than ORVW 10/107 in that middle price/value category that I can get a hold of regularly.

The VS is a bit light on taste but very unique... it has a great nose and entry and then pfft... underwhelms. I bet if they bottled it at 107 it would be a mighty fine pour. The BIB is a bit harsh (not the proof, just the flavor and smoothness) but decent for <$20... I've been through a few of them and prefer others in that range (i.e. WT101, Weller SR).

just my .02 enjoy!

Thanks for the reply! I'm a wheater guy and I'd love to get hold of some Centennials! Unfortunately, the stores I have found tend to carry the same 10 brands of boring whiskey. There must be one rep in this area that talks every store into carrying these same selection.

The Centennials are no more unfortunately. If you're lucky you can snag one once in a while. However, that juice is now being bottled at barrel proof in the form of William Larue Weller BTAC, and at double the price I might add :hot:

So when they come out this fall make sure and grab yourself some.... they are fantastic and the only wheater in that grouping.

Just picked up two bottles of EWSB 1994, plenty more available if anyone is interested. I wanted to buy them all but the store only takes cash and I just moved into a new apartment at school and wasn't carrying that much with me.

Also spotted a bottle of Russell's Reserve 10 up high, couldn't see the price but might look into it when I go back
