W.L. Weller Centennial.

My first Weller product, already cracked into it while doing my biochemistry homework. What a beautiful appearance and a great taste, so sweet with a nice oak presence. I'm glad I went back for this one. Now to ruffle up some funds for that last bottle of Lot B they had.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for 2002 and 2006 based on the stellar experience with the 2005. My buddy isn't on the bourbon forums and I'm not comfortable putting his name out there. He isn't the fanatic that most here are, but he's a Wellers 107 fan due to my influence. If you work at QT, odds are you've met him- he lives east of town near Andover just off Kellogg.

Next time I'm in Wichita we'll have to get together.

I know a Weller Antique fan who works for Boeing/Spirit and comes into the QT at 47th and Oliver. works 3rd shift.... but that would have to be too much of a coincidence.

I have it on good authority that biochemistry homework and Weller Centennial do not mix well. Advantage Weller Centennial.

Lucky you, I didn't know about such fine bourbon when I was doing chemistry homework.

Nice score, Drazz.

I stocked up on the soon to be defunct OWA 7 year today...I saw the new bottle...don't care for it. The new one looks too sleek for something called "antique" :)

Is there actually a change in the product itself?

There is no age statement on the new bottle. I didn't pick up a new one for comparison, but I expect I will at some point.

Well... if there is an actual change, I hope that Buffalo Trace has made one for the better, and not the "cheaper, cutting cost" worse.

I can't see how removing the age statement can be a change for the better. Seems to me it just gives them the freedom to put younger juice in there and crank out more.

I was told that the whiskey is not changing, just the label.

You're correct that it gives them the leeway to put in younger whiskey without the added cost of another label change, but I was told that is not what is going on now.

I certainly hope not. I really like the label and would hate to see any changes that would hurt the product.

Whew!!! I was beginning to hyperventilate reading the previous couple of posts. The OWA has become my Centennial replacement. Particularly the barrel that McScrooge's did several months ago. It's not quite Centennialish, but daggone close. I'm glad to be given some time to stock up, IF they do change things down the road.

There's a store in No. KY that does single barrel bottlings of OWA. I was going to haul up there and buy a case this week but they are sold out. They are waiting for their barrel in the new bottles to come in.

Is there an image of the new look OWA 7 yr on-line somewhere?

Not that I am aware of, greatbourbon.com still shows the old bottle.

Can you reveal your source on this?

There are people on another site (myself included) who are having a hissy fit over this today.

Truthfully, I'm thinking BT already has some improving to do on releases of Antique in the middle of this decade. Considering how incredibly skillfully they've crafted their rye, a step backward with the wheater juice would be...unfortunate.

I'm guessing that barrel purchases will maintain a high quality level regardless of what the standard profile of the vatted product becomes. I can't believe BT would roll out mediocre barrels from which to choose. If I detect profile shift in the NAS, I'll advocate for that to be our next barrel purchase.

I can't tell you who told me, but it is definitely someone who knows what is going on at BT and the word is that they are not changing the whiskey at all.

This won't satisfy those who think that the product has been headed in the wrong direction lately.

Maybe we should open a new thread on this if we're going to discuss it further. I'm sure that there will be the same concern here regarding the new NAS bottling.

Opened a new bottle of ER 10/90 and had a good size pour...those folks at BT sure know how to make a nice tasting bourbon! ;)

I didn't really purchase it but I did bring it home...It's an OGD BIB made it 1958 bottled in 1962...as you can see from the pictures it's lost about 15-20% to angels share already...thinking about putting it in a different bottle as this one has seen better days. The back label says it was Bottled in Bond at DSP Ky. 14...Can't wait to have a sip off this.

I picked up an OWA 107 in the new bottle a couple of weeks ago and I did not notice until now that there is no age statement.

Might have to get a couple of the old ones for the bunker.

Hit the panic button after reading this and stocked up on 4 OWA's in the "old" bottle. This is one of my favorite everyday pours and I'll just have to pick up more as I come across it. 4 bottles won't last long.

During a quick trip to Dallas and beyond, I managed to uncover an OCPR Slope Shoulder. One of my craved faves.
