Man o' War

Taken from Saveur #74, recipe by "master mixologist," Dale DeGroff

3 orange slices, 2 for garnish

1 slice lemon

3 oz. Wild Turkey 101

2 oz. orange curaçao

1 oz. sweet vermouth

2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

2 maraschino cherries for garnish

2 slices of orange for garnish

1. Put 1 slice orange and lemon slice into a cocktail shaker and fill shaker with ice. Add Wild Turkey, curacao, Vermouth, and lemon juice and shake well.

2. Put a few ice cubes into 2 martini glasses. Strain cocktail into glasses and garnish each with a maraschino cherry and a slice of orange.


I suggest Vya sweet vermouth and Senior Curacao curaçao. For the fruit, I prefer organic Valencia oranges and home-made maraschino cherries (or barring that, Luxardo brand). I'm lucky to have my own lemon tree as well.

This cocktail is also good with rye...
