According to Steve at Liquor Barn, the release date has been pushed back to December 15th. He said that according to his disributor, the whiskey has not left the distillery yet. He said that this date is subject to change and that I should call him mid next week for an update. I'll let you know if I find out something. frown.gifmad.giffrown.gifmad.giffrown.gifmad.gif

Hmm... Like the rest of the people here, I can't wait to have my very own bottles of George T. Stagg... But what 'killer' bourbon will we have to look forward to after it is released?

Well Chris we now have a new version of the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon to look forward to each year. Ditto that for Evan Williams Single Barrel. Sooner or latter L&G will get around to putting some of the pot-stilled whiskey in some bottles and selling it. So there's plenty to look forward to. cool.gif

I was out today and on a lark I decided to stop at Liquor Barn in Louisville.

Now I got good news ( for me anyway)

And I sort of have Bad news ( for everybody else)

I inquired about the Stagg and sure enough they knew what I was talking about. They will only be getting 3 bottles at this particular store, maybe some will be coming to a store near you!

They wanted to know if I wanted them to hold one for me (HUMM Let's see)

Sometimes I like to play it big so I said I'll take all 3

They said they were sorry there are 2 other people in front of you, But that number 3 bottle is mine!

This is a store that probably sells a 40 foot trailer full of Bourbon each week.

If it all works out I'll no doubt be putting this under lock and key.

I know we are all friends here, but if this stuff really becomes this hard to get and rare to find, I can't help but think there may be someone who might think it's a real waste for Bobby Cox to bathe his guts in this fine bourbon, oh well I'll be sure to post tasting notes of sorts , and not miss a chance to laugh up my sleeve. smirk.gif

Of course since I don't have it yet the joke may be on me! grin.gif

Bobby,

The LB here in Lexington is not stocking any. They are however special-ordering me two bottles. You might ask if they will special-order you more if you want it. Or try another liquor store. Did they give you any idea of when they would be in?

The way I understood what they said was , they will get 3 bottles period . I told him there is only 2400 bottles of it and he didn't know that , but it was all clear to him then. I've got a few other places to check . I'll nessessarily be cloaked from here on in . Gee this is fun! grin.gif

BTW no news on when except for " Pretty Soon"

As it turns out "Pretty Soon" is today. My son competed in the toughman contest at Caesar's Casino in Indiana Last Nite. I came home from work and he and I were discussing that , he said, " Someone called and said they have a bottle of Bourbon for you, George T. Stagg" I said you're kidding , you're making the whole thing up. He said How can I make that up, I didn't know anything about it. I realized that indeed I hadn't mentioned anything to him about it.I hurriedly headed north. I am the proud owner of my 1 bottle of George T. Stagg. So few are the times that I roll out on top........Unless Buffalo Trace has sent our distinguished Moderators and Jim Butler a Bottle .......Just wanted to be first, I mean I wanted you guys to be the first to know..... grin.gif

This bottling wieghs in at 137.6 proof. We had as I recall 137.4 at the distillery. I realize that those 2/10th of a point are no doubt indistinguishable , but they are there none the less.

We Bourbonites are a fickle bunch , Today I have nothing but the warmest regards for the Buffalo Trace outfit. My bottle will be sealed a while , I am looking forward to the time that I indulge myself with this Bourbon. Oh yeah $38.99 , Damn can it get any better? smirk.gif

After reading your post I called Steve at LB. My bottles are there grin.gifgrin.gif Unfortunatly I can't pick them up until Friday as they don't know how much to charge yet. Something about getting the invoice mailed into the main office.

Birthday Bourbon, Kentucky Spirit, and Stagg all in such a short period of time...I'm afraid that I am going to wake up from this dream with only a bottle of Ten High to my name. grin.gif

I went back and looked at the photo of this bottle posted by Greg Kitzmiller. They added (?) TM under the last G in Stagg. So I suppose it is now a registered Trade Mark. There is no age statement front or back. A small oval sticker Proclaiming this to be 2002 American Whiskey of the Year by Malt Advocate Magazine is present above and to the right of the Antlers. I am seeing a remarkable Ruby Red color thru the large part of this bottle, only in the smallest part of the neck does it subdue to the amber/ brown tones that I am accustomed to seeing in most all Bourbons. As this becomes available to you in different parts of the Country/World, I'd be interested if there's any proof other than 137.6 . That might render a clue that the Batch was broken down into smaller sections or if it was all proofed together at one time. It makes no real difference either way, it would just be interesting to me to know.

I just put that in for fun. I don't know what really the best way to do that is. I know the restaurant critics for the paper in louisville pay their way as far as the restaurants are concerned , I think the paper picks it up. I guess you could be objective, maybe not. I would be willing to try! I read a profile on one of the Whiskey magazine fellows( not our own Cowdery) He was very proud of the fact that all the distilleries sent him their products, he said " Basically I get paid for drinking" Which would be a good job, topped only by" whorehouse safety inspector" or "Currency Spendability Assurance" ( you would get a big pile of money and take it out and make certain it worked in the marketplace) The fellow in Question here gets slammed more for his reviews than any one else , I have to wonder if the complimentary samples are clouding the issue here. Or rather tilting the tables in favor of whose package was largest this month. I would like to drink free.I don't have a problem with those fortunate enough to do so. I just look at it like I buy mine and feel free to say it's great or it sucks , whatever the case may be.

Bobby( with an eye toward the bigger production)C

This could go as well on the Greeting for a Happy Thanksgiving But in the end will be more about the Stagg. We are at Amelia's Brother and his family for Thanksgiving , a 20 plus year tradition. We needed beer and ran up the road to get some . We ended up at a liquor store at ................. they had 4 bottles of Stagg on the shelf , one less when I left. I opened it and poured a small amount all around for any interested party, (Did I say PARTY?) after a very small sip her Brother out with his walet and dispatched us back to get him a bottle of it! How's that for a hard sale? While there I reserved 2 bottles for next week, No problem, I was told at this store they would be stocking it and had plenty more on the way. I am Thankful for many things this day, And for this also! I also rounded a corner in the store and there was 4 more bottles on an endcap.

I am drinking this and I found Birthday Bourbon to be better than I remembered at the large porch at L&G where we had lunch. This is better as well . You may find elsewhere that I stated that the whole trip was worth a drink of Stagg, I think that even more so. This one would be hard to drink voluminiously the proof is that strong. It also would be easy to get "Out There" with this bourbon easily and quickly! grin.gif
