ggilbertva
Holy Cow what a long day! Even though we have nasty weather here in DC, I braved the cold and sat on the front porch with a FRSB 120th and a Macanudo Hyde Park (and a space heater). JamesW
Ritt BIB, and now some Handy 2008. Like a broken record... cinnamon candy I love it! The Ritt blows me away for sheer quality at sub $20, amazingly good value and so very pleasant to sip neat.
smokinjoe
It finally stopped raining, but it's still cold. But, the good thing is that I can begin the outdoor fireplace season! So, sittin' by the fire, with a delicious WTRR 101 and Oliva Serie V. Don't feel much like listening to the Yankees and Angels, but I am getting a very clear radio signal of the UK announcers doing the Kentucky/Auburn game. Not a bad evening, at all. JamesW
added a short pour of Stagg to round out the evening... one pour left and she's gone... those 2009's better get here soon :drinking:

callmeox
After working from noon until now implementing some changes at work, I'm enjoying a nice pour of '07 Sazerac 18 while I catch up on the real world.Man, I love this stuff.
BBQ+Bourbon
I've run the gamut today. Started with OWA 08 (lackluster), then on to OC 8 year 1994, some OGD114, and now OWA 06.
jburlowski
Because of the unusually cool weather, I built the first fire of the season in the fireplace last night. Enjoyed FR Mariage 2009 while watching the flames. This may be the best FR juice I have ever tasted!

Enjoyed FR Mariage 2009 while watching the flames. This may be the best FR juice I have ever tasted!Sounds like it was a lot better than the tail end of the FR Small Batch bottle I'm trying to finish off. For some reason, I just can't get into this bottle at all. The nose brings out something akin to ammonia--I shit you not. Just awful, after nothing but great pours from several bottles of FRSB and Yellow Label. Very disappointing.
jburlowski
Too bad... I (admittedly in the minority here) like the SmB over the SB. The SmB seems more complex and interesting to me.Cue up Oscar...
hectic1
I have on nights and off nights with the FRSmB...I never know what to expect when I select that pour. I have a FRSB Binny's Barrel #2 in the bunker and I just ordered a Julio's FRSB as well as a FRSB unfiltered/uncut from them. Once I get those in house I'm going to do a little FR sampling with those 4 pours.

Maybe I got a crap bottle somehow. You have to understand, I'm one of those guys who likes (or loves) virtually every bottle I buy. Honestly, I'm just not that fussy and have been able to find something to enjoy in every bottle of bourbon and rye that I've ever owned. I mean, there have been a few that didn't excite me a hell of a lot and will never be replaced, but I downed them without grumbling and felt content when they were gone. Yet this bottle has vexed me from the beginning. Just a terrible nose that never improved with age. Maybe I'll get an opportunity to sample someone else's bottle someday and will have a different experience because I sure as hell won't be buying another bottle for myself. callmeox
Trying a sample of '09 OFBB from another SB'er and to be completely and brutally honest, I'm not picking up the box of diapers smell at all.The nose is pretty neutral to me and the bourbon is tasty. Nothing offensive that I detect.

OscarV
Right now I just followed a Wild Turkey Rare Breed with an Elijah Craig 12yo, both neat, and I gotta say the EC12 exploded with flavor.I wonder if I were to have done it the other way around what the results would be. Because it was the first taste of the day I'll have to wait until tomorrow and do the EC12 first.Maybe we should start a thread titled, "Before And After". jwp
I've been drinking mostly WT101 and WLW107 this Fall, but since I turned 40 on Saturday I couldn't resist the temptation and placed one of my 20yo PVW bottles in the empty bottle bin. My FOL, who mainly sticks to Jim Beam mixed with Coke, remarked, "So, that's what I've been missing out on."

Because it was the first taste of the day I'll have to wait until tomorrow and do the EC12 first.Maybe we should start a thread titled, "Before And After".That would be a very interesting thread. Unlike many of you, I virtually never drink from more than one bottle of bourbon in the same evening as I used to. I found that whatever I switched to made the first pour seem "better" or "worse" by comparison, even when I tried to match things up that were of a similar nature (age, proof, high or low rye content, wheaters, etc.). I can compare and contrast different brands of beer all night long with no difficulty whatsoever, but whiskey has proven to be a bit trickier. About the only time I enjoy switching up my whiskeys is when I stay within a "family" of bourbons (WT 101 to Russell's Reserve to Rare Breed to Kentucky Spirit, for example, or climbing the ladder from ORVW 10/107 to Lot B to Pappy 15). Does anyone else experience the same problem when they shift around too much?
spun_cookie
Opened and poured some OGD BIB from 83 to see how it was from a 77 6 year BIB. The 83 changed nose and taste over 30 min and almost got to the profile of the 77 juice. It started with some cream and butterscotch, then went through a little bitter faze with green apple and the came to a nice classic ND juice balance with bigger butterscotch, cream and spices. Sometimes I may sip a dozen different flavors in a sitting. Somedays this doesn't work so good. Last year I sat down with a weller and stagg and sipped one then the other then one then the other then walking wasn't as straight as it should be and wifey made fun of the fool.
