Congrats...............................................

Thanks Em! For all your help as well, you were really pushing for me on your side of the world and I appreciate it!

Eagle Rare 101 out of the old decanter that showed up today with 2 siblings  .

Broke out some Pappy 20 to toast 4 runs for my Angels. If they can just keep it going. One win at a time.

While staring at my open bottle table....I decided to vat a '74 Old Fitz Prime and an '82 Old Fitz BIB. Yummy.

A late start, but going with some WLW SR -- this one always satisfies, although it doesn't really impress.

PS -- Congrats, Tony . . . my condolences about your early retirement.

Isn't it great when you have one of those nights when your pour can do no wrong? I had one last night while watching the Yankees/Angels game. I cracked open a new bottle of Fighting Cock and it tasted perfect. Just the right amount of sweetness, no burn whatsoever (which is always nice with a 103 proof bottle) and the best mouth-coating texture I've experienced in weeks. It was this last point that had me pouring one after another. Just superb and far better than my previous bottle of FC, which was good in its own right. Lots of folks love their FC because of the "rough around the edges" quality that it usually has--the "kickin' chicken" takes no shit! But this bottle was almost luxurious by comparison to the previous one. I'm going back for another bottle today!

I wish I could get that "mouth-coating texture" from FC. Every bottle I've had is a little too sweet, a bit thin, a bit hot for its 103 proof, and not very complex.

I've often wished the brand would get a minor face lift and a jump in quality. If the juice was a little older and HH got rid of the juvenile label, replacing it with a more stately rooster, I think it would do the brand justice.

I've seen pics here on SB.com of older 7 or perhaps 8 year age stated FC.

Yes. I know what you mean. That is how I felt about the last bottle of FC that I owned, which is why this one surprised me so much. This bottle is sweet but not overly so and has much more body than the last. And the "hot" quality was completely absent as well. A mystery, I guess!

Started off with a pour of Buffalo Trace. Now sipping on some Ancient Ancient Age 10 year old purchased in Lexington, KY.

I was surprised to find an open ORVW 10/107 in the back of the cabinet this evening. I'm enjoying a pour as I look for something unique to sample out to the dorks that I'm meeting for breakfast in the morning. I think I have something good in mind.

I prefer to be referred to as a Dorkican-American.

Please respect my heritage.

OWA NAS and some ORVW 10/90.

John,

Any comparative analysis? I'd be interested in your opinion.

Thanks.

IMO, the ORVW is clearly superior --- the extra aging adds richness and complexity. The mouth feel seems "denser" as well. (The ORVW 10/107 is even better --- if you can find it.)

The current OWA NAS is, as far as I can tell, just as good as the previous AS bottlings.

John,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have yet to see the NAS OWA in MI and ORVW 10/90 is not offered here. ORVW 10/107 is offered but is scarce.

Mostly I was wanting your thoughts about AS OWA vs NAS OWA.

Thanks again.

Will

Last night I had a few pours of WL Weller Special Reserve... I don't know why, but I'm always a bit surprised at how damn good it really is.

Scott - if you're finding open bottles of ORVW just sitting around....you're not drinking nearly enough. Pay attention man!!!!

I tripped over one of my old dusty mini bottles today that looked interesting. It is Old Forester BIB from way back in tax stamp days and is marked as 1/10 th of a pint. The only numbers on the bottom are 12 & 66. Surely its not from 1966 but I don't know.

My first taste of Parker's Heritage.....wow, high proof but very drinkable neat....lovely nose, great taste...spicy, leather, and a host of other notes I cannot adequately describe...very nice...it better be for the price!

Added on cube to see how it effects this high proofer...as with every bourbon I add ice to...the overall effect is to bring out sweetness as it reduces the alcohol effect.

A very nice premium bourbon.
