Lot B last night while handing out the treats.

Seems like less tricksters that usual this year. Impact of the swins flu?

A marriage of 60% WLWeller 12yo and 40% WLarueW 2009, neat and having some chocolate covered dried cherries along with it.

Not a bad way to round out the weekend.

Was in Wisconsin over the weekend and found Ancient Age BIB which I've never seen before. I really like AAA10 (not 10 Star, which I've never tried) so I thought I'd pick up a bottle and check it out. Turns out I really enjoyed it, enough to go back to the liquor store to buy the remaining two bottles before returning to Chicago. I'd say the stuff is a real bargain at $12, and I read on Lew Bryson's blog that someone at Liquor World told him the AA BIB was being discontinued, so that made the purchase that much better! For those who haven't had it, it is quite smooth and on the delicate side, like AAA10, with just the right amount of sweetness. Not a heavy hitter, just a nice sipper.

drinking some 2009 OF Birthday Bourbon and am not impressed. i'm going back to the Wild Turkey Rye.

picked up a bottle of 2008 OF Birthday yesterday, and am hoping it's better than the 2009, because i don't think the '09 is worth the $120 I paid for 3 bottles.

Julio's Angel Share

'09 Stagg

'85 Old Overholt

'00 Weller 19

Good company and good bourbon.

WT 101 from 89 and RR 101 before dinner and uncut Cadenhead 9 years HH after. The 2 Turkeys tasted much better than the HH today and maybe the old-timer seemed best of the lot this particular evening.

Cracked an Julio's RHF Series II Barrel #34 tonight that I've been sitting on since February's Whiskey A-Go-Go. I don't know why, but it's been calling to me the last couple days suddenly. What a good bourbon -- I haven't really enjoyed any of the other SBs from this mashbill, but I love this -- the rye comes through very clearly but is not overpowering, some of the fruit notes that overwhelm the ETL & Blanton's show up here but are in no way intrusive and the wood is so soft and present but understated -- yeah this is a keeper.

For contrast I followed it with a little SW VSOF which really does it for me -- great nose, great mid-palate . . . really nice.

I was down doing the laundry tonight and I could hear this little voice calling from the other side of the basement, I thought it was one of the girls but it sounded like a boy's voice... sure enough, I peaked around the corner and there he was, little Tommy Handy, he was about 2 years old (seeing his birth in 2006 and this was 2007). What a spry little guy, bright and full of life, everything just rolls off the tip of his tongue. So we wrap up our conversation and I decided to continue on into the young boys 3rd year to which I found to be softer up front but carrying many barrel notes with him now, I've found if you sit down and chew the fat with him now, you can get that spicy whipper snapper side to come up, but if you just reminisce with him the hot damn tempered side really doesn't come out!

I'm really glad he called me tonight, we've had a great chat Little Tommy and I!

Cheers,

Tony

I always suspected you enjoyed the company of young boys.

Anyway, started out tonight with a VOB 90 and finishing with 4R Single Barrel. Nice relaxing evening.

You're next! You live close enough!!

Although with your back round it's no wonder you would think that way! (forgive me father for I have...gulp)!!!

EC12, 09 GTS, and VWFRR. Of the three I like the rye best. EC follows GTS in taste, but considering price takes the lead for second place.

old fitz prime (sw) ... holy crap this is great flavor in an 80 proofer. Going amazing with a 5 vegas classic.

leather and spice from the cigar, then a wave of sweet from the juice. yum... just sitting on the back porch enjoying life

WTRRR before dinner yesterday and Overholt 1981 after. The roughness I felt in the Overholt from the beginning has almost mellowed out now thanks to oxidation.

Not long ago I posted that I came across a really enjoyable bottle of Fighting Cock that knocked me out. It poured much better than previous bottles of FC for some reason and was most impressive because of its mouth-filling texture. Well, I returned to it last night and...nothing. It seemed like FC bottles of old, enjoyable but lacking what it displayed the last time around. It must just be me, I guess.

Andy - I have the same bottle and while it young and spirited, there's not much going on. I've used it in some vatting experiments with good success. For the price, proof and age, not a bad addition.

Yeah, I hit it a few days in a row after I opened it just to get a line on it, but I agree -- it's pretty pedestrian. Still, it's nice to have in the arsenal: a BT BIB is interesting if nothing else . . . will probably be hanging around in the cabinet for a while, though.

I'm into the 4R's 2009 Mariage, neat.

This stuff should be illegal.

The nose alone turns me into a blithering idiot.
