I'm into the 4R's 2009 Mariage, neat.

This stuff should be illegal.

The nose alone turns me into a blithering idiot.

In that case do not, under any circumstances, drink! Package up unused portions and send to me for quality control. :slappin:

Turkey Heaven now, that's right, I'm doing a pour of Wild Turkey 86.8 proof circa late '70's or early '80's.

Andy - I have the same bottle and while it young and spirited, there's not much going on. I've used it in some vatting experiments with good success. For the price, proof and age, not a bad addition.

I never drink my whiskey this way any more, but I took a rocks glass, filled it to overflowing with ice and poured some of that AA BIB over it -- delightful!

I'm really enjoying it! I'm even considering a beer back.

Goes to show there's a way that works for almost everything.

Ain't it great? One of the best from FR to date!

4RSB 2009 and Bulleit, 50/50 in my 1960's fluted-bottom JD rocks glass, two cubes. This is the perfect use of both whiskeys. The result is a harmonious sweet spicy whiskey with the balance point (of age, proof, 4R house character) just perfect.

A little EC12 tonight. Not enjoying it as much as I used to. Still some fine whiskey though. Hopefully this pour will benefit from a little more time in the glass.

Cheers!

This 4R Mariage discussion has me all hacked off. I opted for 3 bottles of the 09 Anniversary and I'm not that taken by it, I actually liked the Toddys Selection better, and now I'm reading how good the Mariage is. Ugghhh!

Tonight, RITT Bib, OWA nas, OWA nas.

Isn't that the way it always goes?

I has a couple pours of ER 10/90 last night while in chat. A couple of the guys were raving about GTS...made me a little jealous but considering I was sitting in a hotel room in NC my bourbon selection could have been a lot worse!

Yeah, I hit it a few days in a row after I opened it just to get a line on it, but I agree -- it's pretty pedestrian. Still, it's nice to have in the arsenal: a BT BIB is interesting if nothing else . . . will probably be hanging around in the cabinet for a while, though.

I really liked the AA BIB, actually. I didn't find it pedestrian, so much as delicate and refined for a BIB. I have the same view of the AAA 10 which has subtle charms that take a bit of time to appreciate. If you're looking for big, bold flavors then Ancient Ancient Age 10 and Ancient Age BIB won't fit the bill. But honestly, I found myself nosing the glass ten minutes after finishing my last pour of the BIB because I was really digging the sweet cherry/vanilla aroma that still lingered when I was done drinking it.

Only old-timers today. JB black-82 before dinner and Overholt –81 and WT 101-89 after dinner. All were ok/good but the Turkey was the best with no competition.

Sipping on the new EWSB release. Nice bourbon but the shorter than anticipated finish was somewhat of a disappointment.

Eagle Rare 10 year old.;););). Quite a nice pour

That's my go-to! I love it.

tonight I opened a bottle of 2009 Sazerac 18 year, and compared it to a bottle of 08 I have. THe 08 is mostly gone and has been open for a long time, so it's possible that's why I find some differences... but I'm not sure.

The 09 is much more astringent than last year's. Lots of smoke- very little of anything I would really want to say tastes like oak, but definitely some charred notes in the front. burnt leather. the typical, beautiful stewed apples and fruit I typically get from ryes are mostly hiding.

It's not bad whiskey- and perhaps after the bottle sits for a while, I'll like it more. What I would say about it is that it is very different. Not a typical whiskey nor a typical rye.

That's a nice take on those, Uncle. I've really been enjoying the BIB over the last several months. To me, it's the best horse coming out of the AA stable right now. And, that includes the AAA 10 yr.

Yes, Josh. I had never seen or heard of it before Saturday when I discovered it on a trip to Milwaukee. I have since read on Lew Bryson's blog that it is being discontinued. Too bad, if that's true, because it's a real bargain at $12.

I'm a happily married man, but if Jim Rutledge promised me a barrel...

Oh, you're so cheap Josh. Bill Samuels just touched your shoulder, and you got all mushy...:D

You have no idea Joe, you have no idea.

And then there was my tipsy wife trying to seduce Jimmy Russell at the Sampler...
