The previous FRBS thread was closed so I started this new one.

Via the Party Source:

"The Party Source is launching a major new Bourbon project in

conjunction with Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Introducing Four Roses Barrel Strength, the first ever private

release of a barrel proof, un-chill-filtered Bourbon from this

great distillery.

As you likely know, Four Roses produces ten different Bourbons

off their stills. To accomplish this, they using two grain bills--OE,

at 20% rye, and OB at 35% rye--and five yeasts--K, F, O, Q,

and V. After maturation in their unique single-story warehouses,

these ten recipes yield a wide range of flavor, which Four Roses

usually vats together to produce their various Bourbons. Now,

for the first time, you can taste these Bourbons in single barrel

format, straight from the barrel, exploring the flavor of one yeast

strain at a time using both grain bills."

Sadly, they cannot ship alcohol out of Kentucky.

I wonder if this stuff will make it to Chicagoland at some point. By the way, how much does it cost?

Is this just a Party Source exclusive thing or are other liquor stores getting it too?

It is now one of the options for personally selected barrels. Anyone can do it, or just pick one from the selection.

I purchased it from Binny's in Chicago for $80 in early September, and then at two different places in Indianapolis this weekend for $67.

I have tried the Binny's bottle (57.8%) and it is really good: great nose, silky feel, and strong finish.

Julio's did this earlier this year. They were the first in the program I think....

The one that was chosen is the same formula in this years FR Merriage.

A bunch of us from here, BD, and BE were there.. it was a blast. Those guys at FR really love bourbon.

You probably purchased the 2009 Four Roses Single Barrel/Barrel Strength offering. This is different than the new program that is mentioned by the OP.

The new program allows you to select from (eventually) all 10 bourbon mash/yeast combinations that Four Roses creates and have them bottled at barrel strength.

Brett was just considering the barrels for Binny's when he was at KBF, so his selections are not available yet.

2009 Mariage is a combination of 10 and 19 year old OBSK and 10 year old OESO so it is not the same as what you picked on your crusade.

Per Jay from the Party Source, these are the first 2 from a group of 10 he plans on doing. If you read the KBF thread I believe Gillman spoke of the 2 bottles we tasted in the gazebo.

They were one of each mash bill, both with the "K" yeast. I stopped at the Party Source on the way home Sunday and they were on the shelf for $49.99.

Hope this helps... I think Timothy and Joe cleared the rest up.

Cheers,

Tony

Plus..I just spoke with Brett Pontoni(Binny's) and he stated that he chose 7 different individual recipes for his next purchase. Of the ten recipes, two are not of age and a third was disappointing(per Brett).

I saw the FRSB Barrel Strength today at Liquor Barn. 58.5% abv. Don't remember the other details. I'll look more closely for the mash bill and yeast lettering. $66 though.

When we were at 4R last spring They (the Japanese owners) were very reluctant to release any juice that hadn't been chill filtered. They equated the lack of any char particles as higher quality and didn't want to release anything but the highest quality Bourbon they could make.

We made a point of telling them that a quantity of enthusiasts would likely prefer it un-filtered.

Chill filtering and filtering out barrel remnants can be separate. You can filter through a sock to get rid of char. Chill filtering removes the fatty compounds that can cloud chilled whiskey.

I've been enjoying the hell out of Park Avenue Liquor's pick, an OBSQ. $65 here in NYC, but delicious. Aside from Binny's, Julio's, and now Park Ave, anyone else got a bead on liquor stores that have gotten in on this?

From what I understand, the Julio's Barrel Strength release is the same recipe as the official release 2009 LE. It comes from a different warehouse and is about a year younger, but Dr. Entropy calls it the "sister cask" and claims Paul Rutledge wanted to release this one rather than the official release. It is non-chill filtered.

Very mellow and tasty, I might add.

Good thing Paul Rutledge doesn't have a say in such matters. Jim Rutledge does. However, I'm pretty sure the barrels for FRSBLE2009RBSKSBW were already chosen by the time we did the tasting. Besides, one barrel in or out out of the 20 or so that made up the release wouldn't make a difference.

Ok, I'm dumb . . .Thanks, Timothy . . . typing while working can prove dangerous -- I'll have to lay off the working . . .

I dunno, Paul might enjoy whiskey too: http://www.rutledgemassage.com/About_Me

Also, I think FRSBLE2009RBSKSBW should be added to the abbrieviation list. It'll make the Pooh-Bear feel better when I steal his crown in a few weeks.

speaking of which, i've seen the mariage, i've seen a couple single barrel barrel strength bottles... anyone actually got a bead on the frsble2009?
