callmeox
I finally got a chance to take care of the lawn as it is neither stormy, soupy or in the 90's this evening in NEO.I'm relaxing with the Tribe game on the telly and some EC18 mellowing in my Four Roses glass. There's an attention whore in every crowd. I was actually napping last night instead of watching the game, trying to charge my batteries. I had take a late night trip to the airport to pick up my son who was coming home from California after a 10 months of service in Americorps NCCC. He's grown up quite a bit while he was away and we are very proud of his service. :usflag:Now, back to reality for him with school starting in August.I've moved on to some WTKS, smooth brown top. I'm glad I have a few of these put away.
nor02lei
Yesterday;Wild Turkey Rye 12yo barrel proof, Brian of Cork 'N Bottle in Covington gave me a tasting, this was the darkest spirit I have ever saw, it's like Van Winkle Rye on steroids.Very interesting indeed Oscar. Did you notice if it had been filtered, the proof and how much did you like it?Leif
nor02lei
I had Dickel ch and Rittenhouse BIB before dinner yesterday and WT 8 export with the pineapple/vanilla dessert. Everything tasted more or less good and I think this Dickel has an undeserved bad reputation here on the forum. What can one expect from 3 years and 80 proof?Leif
sailor22
Hey Leif, I don't know about bad rep but I enjoy some Dickel #12 from time to time. Last night I was pouring some older Old Taylor. I wish I could find this juice in higher proof - 86 just falls a little short.
SMOWK
Okay thanks for that Leif. I still think it is a good porter but it is true, the craft beer phenomenon has raised standards everywhere.GaryI can't wait for the Black Chocolate Stout to be released by Brooklyn this year.Last night it was all ORVW 10/107. I'm really starting to like this just as much as the PVW15. Is it just me, or is the VW line more horizontal than vertical?
OscarV
Willet Family Estate Bottled Single BarrelSelected by The Bourbon Society Of Louisville17 Years Old133.7 ProofDistilled April 6, 1993A "Wheated" BourbonBarrel No 33ABottle No 143 of 144I got three bottles of this "expression", as my wine drinking buddies would say and I'm glad I did.I have been been playing around with it, trying it neat, cut to 118prf and 108prf.A little fire on the nose at all three proofs along with red hots and hard candy. The neat taste is very similar to the nose, it becomes softer and much more friendly cut to the lower proofs. The hard candy becomes some what cinnamony.A little oak on the finish, but the good kind, not woody, and it stays alive for a long time. Ya gotta do a lot of swallowing and that is a good thing. This is one of those bottles that you will have to try several times to nail it down and I'm up for it.Now that I sit here and ponder the after taste, which btw lasts forever, I think me and ole bottle #143 are going to become good friends. Rughi
...Last night I was pouring some older Old Taylor. I wish I could find this juice in higher proof - 86 just falls a little short. That's actually a taller order than one would think. Just like in Old Forester, the 86 and Bond versions were different taste profiles as well as different proofs. The bonds had more variability, too, in my experience. I learned to love both Forester and Taylor in the 86proof versions and found an extra treat with the bonds a bit later on.Roger

nor02lei
Stagg 2009 and uncut HH 13 years bottled by Cadenheads before a restaurant dinner. WLW 2007 and OGD 114 after. The 114 stood up pretty well against the expensive uncut stuff.Leif
Vosgar
Thanks to a couple of fellow SBer's, I opened my first ER101 (New Orleans) tonight to celebrate the weekend being here. Great taste and finish, I'm going to have to find more of this one and keep my eyes open for a Frankfort as well. Thanks again Tom and Joe. jburlowski
An absolutely glorious summer evening... moderately warm with low humidity. Sitting on the driveway with the neighbors, catching up on the local trash talk, savoring some ER17 (not sure at this juncture which year). The kids are eating popsicles and drawing petroglyphs in chalk on the concrete. The cicadas are singing and the tree frogs are starting to join the chorus. It simply doesn't get much better than this,

Having a similar evening, myself. Sittin' in the garage listening to the Braves on the radio, workin' through my lineup. Momma, daughter and dog keeping me company, and the occasional neighbor stopping by on their walk to say Hello. As it's been lately, the regular Buffalo Trace is Golden. Is it just me, or is BT just about perfect recently? I don't know if I've ever seen it better. Dang, I love Summer.

Makes me a little jealous, but then it dawned on me that it's the same wonderful Summer here in mossy North Florida - but just a little different in the smallest details. At 9pm last night the thermometer had just dipped below 100 and the humidity was sliding gracefully below 98% there was no breeze and the air was still, sultry and damp. I was standing in my driveway sipping a beer and listening to to groan and grind of 12 or 14 of the neighbors air conditioning units trying desperately to match their advertised output and the buzz of yellow jackets trying to locate their nest I had earlier destroyed. No children have been seen outside since school let out and the elderly fellow across the street was hospitalized with heat stroke earlier this week. I have waved at neighbors occasionally from my air conditioned truck and they wave back from their air conditioned Buicks, we haven't actually spoken since last spring. The smell of my freshly mowed lawn mingled the smells of sweat soaked clothes combined with the sweet taste of the american pilsner I was sipping gave me a sense of well being and conjured a joy that is hard to explain. It's true, it doesn't get much better than this.Except then I went into the air conditioned house and poured a Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit and it did get better.
smokinjoe
A little of this, and, a little of that. But, this ORVW 15 is absolutely killin'. Great caramely nose. Velvety over the tongue, with the caramel, butterscotch, and hint of cherry flavor. And, a blossoming and seemingly never-ending finish. Dang great bourbon. DeanSheen
After boating last night I killed off a 2k EWSB.Tonight I'm working on some 4RsmB after dinner and cribbage on the porch. It's a nice 73 here, no bugs, low humidity, perfect weather for us Northern folks.
Luna56
My usual ERSB tonite. I used to rave about its consistency, now I'm intrigued by its variability. This one is real woody withiout being too musty. More fresh tannins, not too sweet. Seems lighter than 90 proof. This is a more complex pour than most recent bottles of ERSB I've had. Enjoying it very much.Cheers!
