I had an international night last night starting with Irish Connemara cask strength moving to SMS Glenmorangie cask strength and ending up with Kentucky's Early Times KSBW.

All excellent, and very clean because I woke up at 6:00 this morning feeling fine, had a cup of coffee and went to work for three hours cutting bamboo.

Edo - is the Early Times an export or an out of production? I have 70's vintage Early Times that is really great but they don't do the KSBW here in the US anymore.

I'm enjoying my birthday present....

Jefferson Presidential Select 17 yr....Batch 5

What a great pour! My wife who is also a bourbon drinker has been graciously helping me out!

I'd been sitting on another bottle (although Batch 1) for quite a few months, then I got my backup...now I'll have to find another Batch 1 to compare...

ETL and EC 12 before dinner tonight. The later was very much better to my taste. I am not impressed at all of this Elmer bottle. I even prefer the Cascade Hallow over it despite 10 less proofs and probably not much more than 1/3 if its age.

After dinner I had JDSS with the apple pie for dessert and OGD 114 as a nightcap right now.

OGD BIB. Wow, but if this is "old school bourbon" than I'm definitely an old school drinker. Amazingly good drink, rich and complex, and practically speaking, very affordable for the quality.

Started with some neat, then added a few rocks. Stands up well to everything. And the classic orange bottle? A classic indeed. This will be a regular addition to my shopping ilsts.

While the girls are off at the American Idol Concert, I'm enjoying a pleasant evening listening to Soup and Boog call the Giants/Dodgers game on the radio. Began with VOB BIB. Now working on an '08 Handy. One was $11, and one was $70. Both, were bargains.

JRPS "Batch 4" much more than I was anticipating.

When I first opened it and nosed it it was very rich, lots of spice some fruit. Reminded me of something I have had before. So I went and got my VSOF "BHC" seems very similiar. I need to do a side by side. I'll write more later.

And a glorious game it was too.

Grab your broom 'cause the Baby Blue just got the SWEEP and are on the brink of irrelevancy for this season!

Time to celebrate with the ND Grand Dad 114.

I've found Beam's 114 to be excellent sometimes. If I weren't on a bourbon spending freeze I'd get one tomorrow, in the name of science.

So, will the Atlantans be able to fend off the Phils? This is about the time of year they stop goofing off and gear up for the playoffs. This year they've rented some good pitching for the end of the season, too.

I'll look for you on the tv. Wear your Giants gear and you'll definitely make the SF station.

With this month's Bourbon Of The Month thread in mind I have turned to one of the other triplets that BT has disowned.

Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve, neat, no cedar no grass, maybe that's why they BT dropped it.

Here's one for you......The Bourbon We Didn't Drink Today!

Last night a good friend threw a 20 year anniversary party for our golfing foursome. We all met at a new member gathering at Northgate CC 20 years ago and played every Saturday religiously for many years and still play together fairly often. Larry offered up his house as the site and we got going around 5pm Sunday. Rib eye roast and multiple bottles of Chimney Rock Cab, Shafer Merlot, Newton Cabs ....etc. At around 11pm his wife Karen brought out one of many bottles she uses to "decorate" around her house. A pristine VOF 8yo 1961/1969. I had seen their many bottles of VOF, VVOF. VEOF around the house and she knew I had spoken highly about them and their history. They wanted to open it but I knew it would go unappreciated at that late hour after 12 bottles of wine between 8 of us. So we just finished our night on wine and promised to not wait another 20 years before opening it.

I've told the story before about how they acquired these bottles, but I'll tell the abbreviated version again. Their son-in-law's grandfather was the long time sherrif in Tarrant County (Fort Worth). He recieved many gifts over the years including tons of bourbon........but he didn't drink. About 10 years ago he told Steve to come by his house and take home all these "gifts" he had been collecting in several closets and in the barn. There were numerous SW bottlings, old Jack Daniels, decanters of all types of whiskey, pocket knives, etc etc etc. Steve hauled it all home but didn't have room for all of it so gave away most of the VOF's, VVOF's etc and kept the JD stuff. These bottlings were all still in the original boxes wrapped in tissue. Unfortunately, most had been given away before I saw the bottles at Larry's and asked about them as I knew Larry doesn't drink bourbon.
