Last night a couple of small pours. Pappy reduced to 94 pf and a '97 EWSB. The EWSB was somewhat thin and a little heat on the finish.

Friday the 13th was lucky for me. I walked into a liquor store I never go in and I saw some OC 12 Yr Old on the bottom shelf behind the counter. He had 10 half pints and I bought every one of them. Tonight I enjoyed a nice cocktail with some 12 yr old.

I would have bought them all too good eye.

Leif, the Bitter Truth is a very nice rye that IMO is very similar to the two rye's Doug did some time back. I gather they are from the same lot of barrels that several folks were bottling from which given the yield were batched or topped off barrels. Worth the price..... not sure I find any libation worth that kind of money... especially for a 700ml.

Ok 2 out of 2 thinks it is a very good rye. It could defiantly be a bottle to bay for our local bourbon club BBB. That way I don’t have to pay more than 1/18 of the price for a 4 cl bottle of it.

OGD 114 before outdoors grilling, Pappy 15 after and fernet branca right now as a nightcap. Pappy did come out short this night despite being much more expensive then the other 2 put together.

Feeling a little under the weather tonight (I'm sure it couldn't have been the half bag of pork rinds I ate with lunch) so I'm fortifying myself for another long night with some smooth dark wood top WTKS, bottled in 02, Barrel 9, warehouse A, rick 51.

Sometimes I love this bottle, sometimes it annoys me. Right now with an ice cube, it's great.

Only half a bag....you pussy. I'll generaly eat a family size and wash it down with a glass of raw cream.

But seriously, I hope you feel better, Josh.

Sometimes you can get a hold of some bad food. I wouldn't eat the rest of them. ( I just threw out a bag of those Ocean Spray craisins. Every time I ate more than a handful, It'd do a number on my stomach.)

It's a hot, muggy, and rainy night in Gawjuh. Spent most of it out in the garage listening to an absolutely thrilling Braves 9th inning comeback versus the Dodgers. Little pours of VOB BIB and EW Green Label BIB. Wow, what beautiful bourbons. Neither bottle over $13...but, both worth at least twice as much, IMHO.

Taking my usual Monday night off from alcohol refreshments but last night I was intrigued by how delicious was a 1995 Benchmark Premium Bourbon (New Orleans bottling at least as stated on the label). This is among one of the better 80 proof not super dusty bourbons I have tasted. I know from reading older posts that the original Seagrams Benchmark is considered unique and superior but this has a lot going for it too. I have also read how Chuck believes this is probably Heaven Hill distilled and possibly even bottled there. To my nose and tasting it bears a resemblance to the only Eagle Rare 101 (Frankfort bottling) that I have. I diluted a precious half ounce of the Eagle Rare to 80 proof for comparison and preferred the Eagle Rare's better mouth-feel and longer aftertaste but it wasn't by much. I'm gonna try it again in a blind side by side soon.

I W Harper Gold Medal 5yo 86prf Louisville, neat.

Nice 50ml gift with a tax stamp, but something about it that I just can't put my finger on it, it reminds me of G Dickel Barrel Select.

It's an old style high volume bourbon from the old days but it's better than Beam.

I'll be moving on.

I'll be moving on.

One more to try in a bit.

Now to the last one, finally.

Name: Antique

Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Age: 6yo

Proof: 86

Bottled by: Frankfort Distilling

Location: Louisville, KY

Hmmm, you know maybe the good old days weren't that good after all.

This stuf taste like a cross between the two previous ones.

Where's my good ole current WTRB and 4R1B?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm otta here!!!

Too much WT101 last night at home, too much at the restaurant, and then way too much at Seacrets (Jamaica, USA) watching Third World in concert for the second time in as many days.

I usually don't spend much time in night clubs, but I can't miss a good reggae band.

Missed this last night -- as I was filing away my Four Roses Yellow Label from the weekend in the cabinet tonight, I spied a post-Seagram's 80's Benchmark (because 4R shares the same shelf, natch) and decided it was overdue, with one cube.

Not as "rummy" -- to use Gary Gillman's all-too-accurate description -- as the Seagram's-labeled from the 70s (there's an unopened handle of that deeper on the shelf) but a wonderful, complex bourbon by any measure.

I had a side by side of OGD 114 1981 and the current with a friend yesterday. He thought the old-timer was much better and I thought they were about equally good, but very different. Later I had WT 12 export as a nightcap. All tasted very well.
