started with a Liquor Barn Hancocks Reserve (a very light treat), then on to a big pour of the Wine Specialist Willett 17 123 proofer. (great nose, very nice, thick mouthfeel, great taste, weak finish.... )

Ahhh.... little WLKS from 02 that I picked up in Bourbon MO. Little hotter than the 03s that I have, but what's a brotha going to do :D

Started last night with ER 101 and finished with BMH 21. Both of them just get better in the open bottle.

I had several small pours yesterday. WT12Gf before dinner and ER 2009, Sazerac 2009, Uncut 13 years HH and Pappy 15 after. The gold folio with its intense honey found the spot best and the Pappy did not impress.

Baker's. Something we talk about little here. In the past, I found this whiskey to have an overpowering taste of the "Beam yeast" characteristic I have never liked. This current sample has none of that: it is sweet, nutty, very soft and light. A super-refined and elegant bourbon despite the formidable proof. I tried adding water; it doesn't work, the whiskey becomes too attenuated. It is perfect as is. I can't imagine a lover of Cognac or other spirits known for delicacy and refinement (certain malts) wouldn't be wowed by this whiskey. Recent Knob Creeks have impressed as well. I wonder if Beam is focusing more on the drink as consumed neat, at least in its best expressions.

I'm enjoying some Old Ezra 7/101. Delicate and sweet but with punch. Some of these NDPs know how to make some damn good whiskey.

E.T. Lee Gold Wax top that a Sber was kind enough to pick up for us in Houston. A damn fine whiskey. Thanks Wade.

I'm enjoying a 50/50 marriage of EC 18 and Old Heaven Hill Very Rare Old 8 after an informative conversation with a fellow SB'er.

He's right, that's damn good bourbon.

I too, stumbled upon a vat.....

I mixed 50/50 GTS and Hancock reserve.....

The resulting 115 proof beast was awesome.....

(now I need to buy another Hancocks.....)

Charter 101.

I wasn't expecting much, based on what I've read, but so far I can't but keep from thinking that this is good like Weller Antique should be. Simple, some caramelly sweetness, a bit of effervescent spice tingling above it all. Not a bit bitter, weak-bodied or overly short like the Antique has been for me since, well, since Louisville. It's aroma can't measure up to the Antique, though.

Bookers last evening.... bottle from about 5 years back that always make me ask why I don't visit this bourbon more often. Always pleasing and enjoyable.

The last two evenings, I've been visting with a pour or two of AAA 10 Star. Whenever I'm looking for something a little lower proof and somewhat easy-drinking, I've found this to be a good choice, and I can't complain about the $12.50 price tag per liter here in VA.

Nice pour Oscar...what do you think of it?

I like it but it's not a favorite.

That may sound negative but it's not really.

My taste over the last couple of years has become more and more narrow.

WLWeller 12 has a semi-dry finish that to me isn't what I expect of a wheater.

Also I am missing the sweet carmalized toffee that I get from Old Rip Van Winkle.

On an A-B-C-D-E scale I'll put it in the B-/C+ area.

Last Thursday when we were celebration, I go Booker's all around in a nice bowled glass and it was great. I must have drank near all 8 that I ordered because my glass never seemed to get empty... :)

I was very pleased with the Booker's. Best I have ever had and would purchase a bottle again now.

Most I have had was like fire water... This was no. Full, flavorful, etc.

The WTKS from 02 has been a bit hot both nights so far in my crystal glencairn. Might have to move to a rocks glass.

After a long day at work and an after work corporate happy hour, I'm unwinding on the front porch with a '95 OWA and a La Gloria Cubana.

Makers 46... I think I'm still too new to appreciate this pour. It doesn't seem like anything real special to me..

Weller Antique. I liked this one already but really started to appreciate it when I sampled it in a Riedel bourbon glass. These things really do make the nose on bourbon totally apparent, and the Antique's layered caramel notes are quite something to behold.

Next up this evening may be an icy whiskey sour made with BT as my porch thermometer says 103 right now.
