08 OFBB tonight. I passed up an 03 earlier today - sounds like I need to go back and pick it up.

Started with a McScrooge's Barrel of Elmer T. Lee. Huge dark chocolate-covered cherries. The cherry is almost Luden's Cough Dropish, with the dryish dark chocolate taming the sweetness. Works wonderfully. Maybe, the best ETL I've had to date. Finishing up with a WT 86.8. Very nice. Leathery and honey. Tasty. Much preferred to the current WT 101, even. But no match for what I think is a spectacular selection of ETL.

Vintage 17 (2006)

That was a damn good bottle.

I'm sipping the Reid & Emerald Willett 133.2prf of 2010, neat.

Re-visited the Rowan's Creek last night, of which I still have half a bottle or more. Better than I remembered it to be, though it ran a little hot at first. The tiniest splash of water smoothed it out nicely and brought out some sweetness that was lacking before the addition of the water. It's doubtful that I'll buy another bottle of RC when this one is gone but that has more to do with the size of my bunker than the quality of the juice.

Oscar, was that at strength or did you cut it? Taking the green wax down to 107 really opens that bourbon up nicely and is a delicious dram.

Michter's Pot Still Sour Mash out of King Tut's head. Circa 1978. Had to pour a few fingers into a Reidel as I emptied the decanter into a bottle.

Excellent. Light and nutty. The next glass will be left out for a bit. We'll see how it opens up.

Today and last night I did both neat and dribbled a little water in it.

But I am going to do a calculation and I was thinking 115 to 100prf, but now I'll go with your suggestion of 107.

Also pour one and let it sit for about a half hour, it changes real good that way too.

This afternoon, I'm really loving this whiskey. Mellow Corn Bottled-in-Bond (dsp 31) on the rocks with a few shots of Fee's barrel-aged bitters. The sweetness of the "corn likker" complements the strong cassia flavor from the bitters.

Enjoying some WT 101 while listening to !!! on vinyl. It's nice when you feel you've gotten every cent worth on a bourbon purchase. The finish on this is worth at least ten dollars more...

I did that earlier this evening with the 144 proofer... she got real thick and rich after about 20 minutes....

I was leaning towards the 133 proofer at first, but the 144 is growing on me....

My wife and I went out for dinner last night to a nice resturant where upon asking what bourbon they offered, was told "Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Makers Mark". How many times am I going to hear that? I had the Makers and decided right then and there that tonight was going to be FC time. Too many wheaters this week, needed some attitude and I'm loving it.

I did have JBW 1986 and WT 8 and 12 export before dinner yesterday. I have had the Beam bottle so long that I have forgotten how I got it and I thought I had to open it. I must say that it is real bad bourbon and I haven’t got anything positive to say about it. I had a pour of JD old number seven at a friends house a couple of weeks ago and I must say I think that is a much better whiskey.

After dinner I had WT 101 from 1986 both neat and with ice-cream and that was defiantly the best pours of this evening.

In Oregon for my good friend's wedding and we were all out at McMenamin's tonight and one friend got a round of the Hogshead Whiskey. I must admit this is now a damn fine tasty whiskey, of the 3 rounds we hand; Woodford, Weller SR and Hogshead I enjoyed it the most.

Last night I decided to have some of a bottle of Booker's that's been open in the back of the liquor cabinet for a long time. According to the bottle's date code it was bottled in 2002, but I have no idea how long it's been open. Not bad, not great, just a big glass of OK. Maybe it's been open too long, but it was just lacking in a number of areas, particularly the finish.

I got around to opening the Kentucky Tavern B.I.B. It's from DSP 12. I would say I rank it about the same as Heaven Hill B.I.B. That is, a decent bargain brand.

Had a nice little flight of bourbons last night while listening to tunes. Started with a small pour of AAA 10, followed by Virginia Gentleman, then ER10/101 and finished with OCPR, all accompanied by a few Goose Island IPA's and some very loud Professor Longhair. Life is good!

Tonight, I am having Old Grand Dad BiB, made into a completely fake Sazerac cocktail. None of the ingredients are correct, but it is good, anyway. In addition to OGD instead of straight rye, I have Sambuca Romana instead of Herbsaint and Angostura instead of Peychaud's.

At a surprise party tonight, I enjoyed pours of Four Roses Single Barrel (Curtis/Hightower selection) and Weller Centennial (Premier).

It was a great night with awesome food and company.
