I had WT 12 GF and Rittenhouse BIB before dinner yesterday and they both tasted excellent. Than JDSS with the red current pie from this years harvest for dessert. It tasted so good it was almost unbelievable. Red current is my favourite berry, but for some unknown reason it has a pretty low status here in Sweden.

Attended a fund raiser last night for our local food recovery/culinary training charity in town. It was mostly great food and mediocre wine, but luckily I found a fellow SB'er working at a drink station that had Old Pogue (not my favorite but definitely superior to a locally distilled vodka at another station).

In addition to the Old Pogue, I did get to try the new flavored whipped creams with alcohol. These definitely have potential for great times that will probably not be discussed on the board.

Elijah Craig 18 and Ezra Brooks 12 are the best ones I have open right now. I'm trying to get through a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch- which is some of the least-pleasant whiskey I've ever had. I'm washing it down with Evan Williams 1783!

Just finished a bottle of Old Forester BIB in dimpled bottle with tax stamp from D.S.P. KY 414. It was quite good. Too bad that was the only bottle I owned.

I wish I could find EB12 more often. I can get the other versions of Ezra without a problem.

I've never liked FRSmB either. I don't know what it is about FR, but the only thing I've tasted that I've liked is a sample of the 2009 Mariage, which was kindly sent to me by a fellow SBer. It was good, but I don't think it warranted close to $100. I will still give them a chance though. I haven't tried any of their barrel proof releases.

I hope to change that soon.

Winding down a very nice weekend, with a solid pour of a newly opened WTRR 10 Yr. Wonderful whiskey. I spent some time just looking at the bottle, and it hit me, how what an attractive looking bottle it is. Top notch bottle to go with top notch whiskey.

JW Dant from quite a while ago. Much better than the current stuff. From my experience, the bottom shelf used to be a lot better than it is now.

I agree. At first I thought it was my imagination but after going through many low shelf dusties, I'm convinced.

I had Dickel CH before dinner yesterday. Light but refreshing indeed. It did hit me how enormously much better it was than the pour of JBW I had a couple of days ago. The old trusty OGD114 tasted good as usual after dinner.

From what I hear Jimmy Russell wants the new owners to build a bottling line at the distillery site in Lawrenceburg.

A few years ago the old owners started tanking it to Arkansas to have it bottled.

Russell says that by the time it gets to Arkansas "it's not the same whiskey".

They have an old bottling line at the WT distillery but it hasn't been used in years. It would only make sense to build a new one why would you pay some one else (former owner now competitor) in another state to bottle your product.

for the same reason we pay bangladeshian children to make our clothing.

I cracked open a bottle of Elijah Craig 18 and compared it to the 12. I really like both a lot. Both are priced great considering their quality.

I haven't started yet, but there's a bottle of Bonded Old Forester that is calling me from the bunker. I shall wade into the forest to retrieve it.

Vatting of 1970's Dickel, George Dickel SB, and Maker's Mark. About 1:1:2. Really happy with this vatting, one of my best.

@ Iowa Jeff. Elijah Craig 18 is a must-buy on my forthcoming trip to KY. Always good, it has improved in recent years into a VSOP/XO brandy of bourbons.

Enjoying some V.O.B. B.i.B. on the R.O.C.K.S.

Damn this is great whiskey. Let's hope we begin to see some more expressions now that Saz is running the show.
