A.H. Hirsch 20 Reserve - Red Wax Top

I have three unopened bottles of the above plus one 16 reserve with a blue wax top. Do you know where I could find more of the 20 reserve? I had four bottles and did open and drink the one over the past few months and I can say that it was the most amazing bourbon I have ever tried. Thanks

Not to be flippant, but you've almost got a better chance of seeing Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster flying a UFO down Stephen Foster Avenue in Bardstown than finding multiple bottles of Hirsch 20.

In other words, the 20 y/o red wax A.H. Hirsch is very very hard to find. You'd be hard pressed to find a collector with four of them even around here. You're sitting on a goldmine, buddy. One bottle has gone for well over $1000 on that auction website.

A. H. Hirsch 20 Reserve, Red Wax Top is one of a very small number of products that is both extremely hard to find and extremely desirable, a potent combination. I'd put it right up there with VVOF.

In 1995 or 1996 I bought four 16yo (BW) and one 20 (RW). I stretched the 16s out over 12 years, enjoying them immensely, and then opened the 20 in 2008 for my 55th birthday. Good as it was, it was something of a disappointment. The 16 had a special "something" that the 20 lacked. If you haven't yet tried the 16, I'd suggest opening that one last, or perhaps at the same time you open the last bottle of 20.

Ignore what others have said. Those bottles are actually known to be extremely variable...with some examples having caused intense and prolonged nausea to the consumer. I'd be happy to check each bottle for you to ensure they're the 'good stuff'. Of course, being a stickler for quality control, I'd have to sample from the top, middle and bottom of each bottle. Recognizing your plight, I'm happy to waive my normal $1,000/bottle sample fee...

I am a Hirsch hoarder with all the wax 16s and the 20. I even had a 19 year, but had to sell it to pay a medical bill...

If you find any of those today, you are very lucky...

I know of one store selling all five bottles of AH Hirsch (20, 16 BW, 16 GW, 19, and I think a rye) for $5000. That is pretty rare and extreme. I've seen a bottle of 20 and a BW on Ebay a year or so ago sell for $750, if I remember correctly.

Of course one of our members recently stumbled on a store that held a BW clearance for less than $100/bottle.:bigeyes: So there is some still out there.

But, as already stated, the bottles you have are increasingly rare and desirable. Several of us on this board would be interested.

That $5,000 set is from Cork n Bottle. According to the picture online it includes a 15 yr, a 16 yr gold wax (in stubby bottle shape), an 18, a 19 and a 20.

Tempting, indeed. But I'm saving for a Road Glide.

A few years ago, I found a couple of A.H. Hirsch 20's (the bourbon) in a store on one of the avenues east of Lexington in NYC. For $80.00 each. Perhaps mis-priced for Hirsch American Whiskey. They didn't last long, since I open everything I buy. Fine whiskey, but I would rate Hirsch 16 blue wax above.

I have 13 bottles of red wax Hirsch and it is waste on my shelf space. I tried to mix it with some Ginger Ale but it was still undrinkable.

For another thread perhaps, but what say the group re whiskeys that are close in taste to A.H. Hirsch 20? I've had some as good or better than this brand. One is Rittenhouse 21 or 23 year old rye. Another is some of the recent EC 18s. And some Pappy 15s and ORVW Family Reserve ryes. A.H. Hirsch 20 was special, but there are other bourbons or ryes as good or better.

I haven’t had the red Hirsch 20, but we had a 20-year-old bourbon from Michters alongside 2 different 16 years versions in a BBB tasting event some time ago http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5792&page=2. It was a Japanese export bottle called Barrett’s and the whiskey inside was pretty odd with a very light body and elegant taste. You could taste the resemblance with the 2 16 years though. I can’t say that these old bourbons from Michters are any of my favourites.
