On a scotch discussion list, (It's always good to spy onthe enemy, eh?) a poll was taken concerning peoples' favoritedistilleries and products. Perhaps the most famous scotch collector of all time, Ulf Buxrud,replied. If you read the Malt Advocate, you might recall a cover storyconcerning a tasting of "100 years of MacAllan" or some such nonsense,drawn (If I recall correctly) from his personal collection. In that listof his favorite scotches, he could not help but mention one non-scotch.Was that one non-scotch a rum? An Irish? Perhaps a pretentious cognac?Recall, this is a man who will spend hundreds of dollars on a bottlewithout thinking twice about it.No one asked for non-scotch favorites, but he volunteered it anyhow.Among the $300 bottles of scotch, the non-scotch that he couldn'tcontain his enthusiasm for was:Van Winkle Family Reserve RyeTim Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Reserve Rye" in my Palm Pilot (whichis an 8 1/2 x 11" piece of paper folded into quarters and shoved intomy back pocket, with the words "palm pilot" scrawled on it), so Iwas going off of that when I made the post. vasshopper Posted February 12, 2003 Share Posted February 12, 2003 I have to agree about the 13yr fam res rye. its the best of the ryes in my opinion but when i can't find it i'll go with the 12yr old time rye. they sure are the best when your're in the mood for rye imho.
