BourbonJoe
I'll never understand that; the one that typically sells out the fastest is priced the lowest. Strange. What's so strange about that??? Cheaper bottles will always outsell expensive bottles for sought after items.Joe :usflag:

Though, except for its relative scarcity, I don't understand why Saz 18 would be sought after more than Stagg and Handy, which in my opinion are better whiskeys. sailor22
A local supermarket opened a new store and is having a buy one get one free promotion. Their attached liquor store has Buffalo Trace as their buy one get one. Pretty sweet deal - I did my Christmas shopping.

It was difficult to pull myself out of there because they had multiple 2010 BTACs (all 5 bottles) on the shelves. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow! BradleyC
Sazerac 18 '10, Stagg '10, VW13, Pappy 15. I still can't find any WLW. Word is, they did not send any to CO. As good of a haul as I've had this weekend, I'm still bummed over the weller.

BBQ+Bourbon
I've had little time to pursue BTAC this go-round but yesterday I did stop in two stores. I nabbed 3) ORVW 10/107 at $39 2) Pappy 15 at $45ish 1) Handy in the low $60 range and a Family Reserve Rye at $44. I'd like to find a Stagg or two but the WLW has lost my interest after last year. Not that it sells more because it is priced lower.

sdchap00
As several folks have said on here, dusty hunting seems to be feast or famine. After reading some more on here, I've learned a lesson or two. Today, I hit up a store here in one of the sketchier parts of town that I'm pretty sure I went to last year. Last time, I think only looked at their main stock, which was centered behind the counter and consisted of current products. This time, I chatted with the guy behind the counter, who said the store had been there since 1953. I'm guessing he was the owner or the son of the owner. I told him I was looking for old bottles. He was really helpful and knew exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for, which was over in a corner that I wouldn't have looked in otherwise. The selection wasn't huge, but they had several bottles, including a 12yo WT, the Harper and Dickel from the BHC, and two bottles of ER101. The ER turned out to be the N.O. bottling and had what I thought was a good price (well, at least after I asked the guy if he'd make me a deal if I took both, which he did for $25 each). I picked both up. Pics are below. The double digit on the base is 92, so I'm guessing it was bottled in 1992 or 93, assuming that this is meant to be a date. I left the BHCs, which were $30 each and very tempting, for another day or another hunter. The WT seemed high to me ($50), and looked like it had some evaporation, since the juice came up only to just below the base of the neck instead of up the neck an inch or so where I'd expect it to be. Thanks for all the tips on hunting you've all left here on the board. Those stories about finding stuff in stores you'd already been to are what led me to head to the place I went today. And here I was complaining earlier this week that Lexington seemed all hunted out.
Special Reserve
sd,The ER101 are great and for $25 each they are great buys. The split label or the Cheesy Gold Foil label WT12 are both excellent bourbons at $50 it is fairly priced. The BHC Harper is a lower proofed bourbon and is an easy drinker. It is a pleasant bourbon, but if you like higher proof it won't be your cup of tea. I've never had the Dickel but I'd buy it just because I could. After 8+years, I'm glad you've joined in on the fun. Will
sdchap00
I may skip the Harper and Dickel for now. I usually prefer a higher proof bourbon, though I am fond of the AAA 10yo at 86 proof, and haven't had much Tenn. whiskey. The WT wasn't the CGF, but I didn't look closely enough to see if it was the split label. Maybe I'll head back later this week. I finally have the resources and space to have more than a bottle or two around at a time. I've got about 30 unopened now and 4-5 open.Thanks.
