camduncan
It's a bit of a ways of yet, but we just paid for airfare and accomodation for a return trip in May 2012..... 15 nights of sun, surf, bourbon and relaxation! Can't wait!!
camduncan
Here we go again. This time next week I'll be at the airport waiting to fly back to Hawaii. 16 nights in paradise  I'll be on the hunt for bourbons again.... I've got vague hopes there'll be some Buffalo Trace products this year, but realise I'm probably just dreaming... Otherwise, Makers 46, Knob Creek Single Barrel, Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit and I'll be good. I might even risk carying a Willett Pot Still bottle back if I see one again. camduncan
Where are you staying this time? Tamura's doesn't have BT?Same place as last year, and no, unfortunately Tamura's doesn't carry BT. The story I got last year was that BT don't have a distributor for Hawaii :skep: Aren't there any CA retailers that will ship to your hotel? That might not be a bad idea.... or even Binnys.... yountvillewjs
That might not be a bad idea.... or even Binnys....See if K&L will do it -- they have a nice selection and while expensive, the shipping won't be as bad as it would be from points further east. I'm only going of what the Tamura's enquiry area told me last year. I found representation of every major distillery except BT and Barton, so it didn't sound unreasonable. There was definatately a lot of bourbon to be found, but it was mostly Beam, Makers & Wild Turkey products.

They're just not selling any Bourbon.
sku
Cam, did you try Costco last time you were there? I've never looked at the Hawaii store, but sometimes you find very good value and surprising stock. Of course, you'd have to purchase a membership which may make it not worth it for you.

marco246
Don't get your hopes up too high regarding bourbon availability at Costco. I was just in the Big Island store yesterday and bought a 1.75 of Maker's Mark and a one-liter bottle of Kirkland's--which is Beam whiskey 7 years old and proofed at 103. Not bad, but not exotic. They also had, of course, JB white and JD black.Last time I was there, about 3 months ago, they had Knob Creek in both 90 and 120 proof expressions, but not this time. camduncan
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice again guys... I'll check out as many stores as I can... most definately Tamura's, Walmart & Food Pantry. I guess something people may not know is that while Australia has a fairly broad range of bourbons available now, we still don't get some of the basics that seem to be pretty common in most US markets. Some products I saw in Hawaii last year that we don't get here include: Old Granddad, Old Overholt, Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, Makers 46, Knob Creek, and any KBD product. (I know there was more, but that's all I can remember) I'll make sure I get some photos this time, and will post if I find anything of interest 4 sleeps now until we leave
