Picked up some WT American Spirit, Jefferson Presidential Select 17 (first bottle I've seen around here), another bottle of Evan Williams eggnog (at $3.50 - what a deal!), a bottle of Elijah Craig 18 yo, and just to be different, a bottle of Marie Duffau Bas Armagnac 1973-vintage 30 yo. Spent enough to get a nice discount, too.

Mark, where'd you run into the Jefferson's? I saw a bottle today at Western Beverage (costco) in Ft Worth today and that was the only one I've seen in DFW

A friend and I just went on a little dusty hunting trip. We mapped a route that would take us through Southern Indiana and into Louisville. We visited probably a dozen stores all told including 3 of the Liquor Barn locations. Here's what I brought home:

VOB BIB

AAA

EWSB 1997

Old HH Gold Label BIB

Mellow Corn

VSOF

Weller 12

ND Old Crow

The Old Crow was the only dusty we found. My friend and I have visited many stores around the central/southern part of the state and this has been the only find so far. I think the state is hunted out.

This sounds very similar to my own experience. The only true dusty I've found in years of searching was an Old Charter 12 a few months ago. I go to Louisville about once a year to pick up most of the same stuff listed above. Was there much difference between the different Liquor Barn stores? I have only visited the one on Fern Valley Rd. Because it's just off I 65, I'm not afraid of getting lost.

There was a difference. The Fern Valley Rd. location was the one we didn't hit, but my friend has been there and said that it was his favorite. The Springhurst location was huge and had a great selection. The other two were smaller and not quite as nice, but still better than anything we have in Indy.

Our only real disappointment was that ORVW seems to be sold out everywhere. That was one of the primary reasons for going, but the only bottle we found was at a tiny, out-of-the-way store and they wanted $65 for it. We passed.

No bourbon today, but my friends and I are doing a rye tasting this weekend. So I liberated a bottle of WT101 Rye and a bottle of WhistlePig from the local shop. One friend bought the Saz 18 and Baby Saz, one bought WTRR Rye, Redemption, and Bulleit, and the final one ponied up for the Handy, Ritt, and Old Overholt. Should be interesting and a good time. Gotta go get the palate rested so it will be primed and ready.

Which ORVW products are you looking for? I can help you out with ORVW 10/90, 10/107, Lot B, and possibly Pappy 20...I make it through Indy about once a month or so...I could possibly bring some with on my next trip down.

EWSB '99, the last one on the shelves of my local place. Wish I had the funds a month or two ago to purchase the case that was sitting there.

Snagged an OCPR, in the stumpy bottle. I like it just as much as the sloped neck ones.

I grabbed a WT rye on sale for $15.99. While I was at it, I also grabbed an Old Whiskey River. There used to be quite a few of those, but they were down to their last bottle. I like Willie and I like what he has done with FarmAid. Do they still bottle this? For whatever reason, I thought this was a thing of the past.

Picked up a bottle of ETL. It's one I haven't had in a while.

Always a good choice IMO, George.

Grabbed a PVW 15 and paid too much for it due to a miscommunication. I'd be upset about it, but then again my consolation prize is a bottle of PVW 15 so I'm not complaining.

Also grabbed a Col E.H. Taylor. Interesting. I remember it being in a frosted bottle in the pictures the last time I saw it, but had never actually seen a bottle before. The bottle I bought has a clear bottle. (googling) Now that I look at the pics again I guess it's just how the photo was taken that made me think it was frosted.

How much is too much? The price can vary quite a bit in different parts of the country.

Picked up this little baby today. Thought it was a bottle of ORVW at first so I was excited. Then I saw what it really was and got VERY excited!

I ended up paying 75, but was told over the phone that the bottle was 65. I think the least I've seen it for was $49, and the most I've seen it for was pushing $100.

Got a bottle of Knob Creek Reserve that was a Binnys barrel purchase and bottled at 132.4 proof instead of 120. Will be opening it this weekend!

Are you sure it is bottled at 132.4prf?

Wasn't there an issue about the label being misleading?

Not that Binny's deliberatly used a misleading label, it's just not worded very well.

I picked up a bottle of WT 101 who would have guessed? But I also got 2 bottles of FRSB first ones I have bought in Iowa. The local liquor store had to special order them for me as they don't carry it. They were very curious about it as FR is new to Iowa.

While it's been a long weekend of traveling for my BIL's wedding, and the trip back home still today, and the time to do a little hunting has been short due to the wedding "stuff" and being a groomsman in the wedding, there still was a bit of time to get out and do some looking in a new city.

While not as old as some find, this first still counts in the "dusty" category in my book. Managed to find a lonely 2009 Sazerac 18 that needed a home, a bit higher in price than I would normally pay in my local store back home, but how often are you going to find these left out this long any more?

There was also a bottle of Forty Creek Confederation Oak that I had mentioned in another thread. This was literally dusty, never had been touched nor dusted since being put in the shelf.

To round it off, another Forty Creek, but this time the Double Barrel.

Yah, I know the canadians don't belong here with the bourbon, but trying to keep it all together, plus, the battery is draining fast and I want to get it in quick.

A very good trip and a lot of fun.
