Visiting friends who asked me to pick up a six pack for them... Decided to check this random liquor store's whiskey selection, expecting very little. For the most part, unsurprised, but did walk away with a 7 year age statement WL Weller antique 107 proof. It and a couple other bottles had a healthy coating of dust. (The most dust covered was the Port Charlotte PC6 but at 159/bottle, those will only continue to gather dust)

Transaction isn't complete yet, but my brother picked up 2 bottles of 2010 GTS - one for him and one for me. Now, all I have to do is wait until he decides if he wants a trade or cash. Problem is he over-analyzes everything. I hope to get my bottle by Christmas.

I bought a Binny's bottling of 4R OESQ, my first OE recipe bottle. I've found that I favor the SQ over the other OB bottles I've tasted, so I look forward to how this compares to the OBSQ.

I also bought a bottle of 40 Creek Double Barrel Reserve - Canadian rye, barley and corn whisky married in a re-barreling of 1st-fill bourbon barrels. It's been awhile since I've poured myself a Canadian, so I'm looking forward to getting comfortable with this.

While dusty hunting in San Jose this past weekend, I walked into a non-descript liquor store and found a Pappy 20, a Lot B, and an Eagle Rare 17 Fall 2006. All of the price stickers were similarly faded, so I think they've all been there since then. The ER17 was marked $60, but it rang up as $30. I felt guilty and asked if that was right. One of the clerks laughed and said, "We don't care." Thank you to whoever messed up that last UPC digit and entered that as an ER10 in their system.

Finally pulled the trigger on a KCSBR. Probably won't be a regular as the price to juice ratio is in the expensive side for me, but wanted to give it a go.

The rye bar was getting a bit low, so I stopped off to see Dave over at K&L on Vine and Sunset....good haul for not too much $$:

2x Baby Saz

1 Bulleitt Rye

1 Rock Hill Farms - Hey, it's sorta rye, right?

1 4 year Willett Single Barrel Rye, 110 proof.....

AND......

1 4R SB K&L hand selected barrel - 9 year, 1 month old OESQ at 112 proof....very excited to try this one after work :)

Bought a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch among other things today. Good stuff, though not as good as the single barrel.

Purchased a bottle of Leopold's American Small Batch Whiskey (Barrel #25) today. As I posted over in the Premium Section, I am really, really, liking it.

Recently at J.T.'s, Wathen's, on a tip from Jimmy and glad I did. It's got an old-fashioned complexity that reminds me of mid-90's Heaven Hill, a touch of eucalyptus and oil in there. A profile not apparent in current HH from what I can see, but glad still to taste it because at its best (where the green wood taste isn't too strong) it is an appealing bourbon flavour. Just like you said Jimmy, like some EC 12 but perhaps a little younger.

Lots of pre-inventory sales in my area, so I picked up the following this week:

WT American Spirit, JRPS 18 x2, BT Single Oak x2, Rock Hill Farms

It looks damn F'ing good.

A little low on the fill but what the heck it's an oldie.

ThomasH could fill you in on the details, in the meantime I have to ask, you wanna drink it?

Oh I'm gonna drink it allright. Just looking for a more opportune setting than a typical mundane night vegging in front of the PC or whatever. I can subsist on current-production stuff for that.

Maybe after the Tigers win the World Series

Picked up a liter of ND OT 6/86 from 1987 and a handle of OT 6/86 from 1988 today...my first bottles in a month...I'm doing well to curb my buying habit. :)

That is the second most beautiful bottle of bourbon I've ever seen.....and I mean that as no direspect, (the best bottle I ever saw was a 1930's Old Fitz bottle with gold enamel), how did you get that on a buy-it-now!??!!?!?

Very jealous.

Well done.

Yesterday I bought a handle of Ancient Age with a faux tax stamp from 87. I'm interested to try this alongside a current release to see if they really haven't changed anything.
