Just got a box from my Fedex man, a Mellow Corn and VOB 100 are in my possession. Add that to the VWFRR I got on Wednesday and it's been a pretty good week for me. Although I may have to finish a few bottles to make room for new arrivals:lol:

Picked up a few dusties:

George Dickel Special Reserve, the last bottle I needed for my BHC collection

1990 EWSB

1994 EWSB

Left behind a few 95's and 94's as I have a few already.

The Col. E.H. Taylor Sour Mash release didn't quite work for me. A little thin and butter scotchy. Almost a cross between dusty Mattingly & Moore and Old Charter 7. I had convinced myself that I would not buy the Single Barrel.

Today I picked up a bottle of the Single Barrel.

So much for resolve.

Lovely

Very jealous about that score, Jean! I put about 100 miles and 15-20 stores behind me today and only found an over priced Handy and a $350 PVW23. I didn't buy either of those! Thanks to the help from some fellow SB posters. Here was my score:

Weller 12

Ritt BIB

Weller Antique

Ezra B 12 SB

The overpricing thing is a bit silly isn't it? I know they can charge what they want but I also found a store that wanted $329 for a PVW23 and $169 for a GTS. Crazy.

Best regards, tony

Willett Rye 3YO 110 proof

WT Rye

I have minimal rye whiskey but the Willett is the best I have had by far.

A bottle of Maker's Mark and a bottle of Springbank 10...I felt a little bit like I was cheating on bourbon by buying scotch, but I take a dram of scotch now and then.

I joined the Bardstown Whiskey Society recently and got a $5 mail-in rebate for one of their upper-end products. So I decided to give Elijah Craig 18yr Single Barrel another go (Barrel #3729, barreled on 11-28-1989). The first bottle I tried was awhile back and wasn't bad. But it didn't blow me away either. Hopefully this one will be better.

EJ, Yeah, I hear Ohio is a very bad place to hunt and for me, CA has become a rather expensive place to hunt VW and BTAC. I hear it's illegal in some Ohio counties to sell higher proof alcohols. In CA, too many people either want them or they are marked up to two or three times more than other places. I found the WLW I'm working on now here in October and I'm embarrassed to say how much it was but it's cheaper than me wanting it every night and paying $18 a glass + parking to drink it at a bar not to mention convincing my gf to drive me home.

Fortunately, I have made friends with a few owners & employees in other places and they called me this week with VW allocation. I'm about 3000 miles from those bottles right now.

Driving around is something I will do when I visit my folks at Xmas to find a couple of bottles of ORVW 107 from at least 09 now that everyone is saying 2011 isn't that great of year for it. Two of my friends & I finished off my last bottle last night :(

Just to let you know, I'm not a hoarder. I'm just stocking up on what I'll drink in 2011-12. Good luck in your hunting, JRM

Getting a early start in the day on dusty hunting. Managed to find some EWSB 1997. Not the oldest thing round that folks have picked, but nice. And dusty, need to give the two bottles a wipe off. Left a 1998, already had two. Besides, it will probably be there next year when I come back for the family get together.

Looking forward to checking the other stores in town.

I was in Houston visiting over Thanksgiving and went to Spec's and picked up a Weller 12.. a real disappointment, nothing but astringent alcohol. Continuously tried it over 4 days and it still sucked. Either my palate was way out of whack or this bottle was an aberration

Also picked up some mail order goodies ..4R LE SmB '11 and FRSB JR selection from shoppers vineyard

I was in L. A. area for Thanksgiving, and managed to bring home some rye; Rittenhouse B.I.B., and Redemption. I haven't tried the Redemption before. I have enjoyed the other ryes from Lawrenceburg. We'll see how it compares to Willett, and Bulleit.

Sorry to hear about this, and hope this bottle was just an anomaly and not evidence of any kind of trend. Had I known you were coming into town, I might have been able to point you in the direction of some 'old-label' Weller 12's.

In the last two days:

A 2011 GTS. I saw it at the store last week, it was the only one, and I was able to resist. But when it was still there I had no power anymore.

4R small batch limited edition

Henry McKenna (Julio's Liquors selection)

I think this may be my first post; long time lurker.

Picked up a Four Roses Small Batch & Evan Williams Single Barrel 2001 today. (wish I could still find the 2000)

I'm in a small town but my local go-to location just added Basil Hayden's, Blanton's, & Booker's. They must be trying new selections alphabetically! I should have picked up some of those, but I am not familiar enough with them to buy blindly. I don't recall the specifics, but they were in the $3x.xx range. Any recommendations among those considering I like the EWSB & Four Roses?

BTW, they really raised prices here in the last 2 months:

-Evan Williams Single Barrel went from $25.99 to $30.99

-Woodford Reserve went from $26.99 to $38.99 (!)
