Some Jack Daniels 2011 special edition 100 proof. It arrived in the mail yesterday as a late Christmas gift!

A buddy and I did a fun little thing. We drew a lottery. Bunch of label names in a cup and drew them at random.

BTEC lost barrel '93

Thomas Handy

PHC Cognac finished

Belveini (sp?) Rum finished (I forget what the label was called)

Elijah Craig 18 Binny's

Happy New Year!

Like the decanter? If so how'd ya like it. I still have mine untouched and waiting for god knows what special day.

It is definitely a special bottle. I think it is very similar to the Pappy 23, but just a touch spicier and hotter. I opened it for my going away party back in August and still have about 1/2 the bottle left, but it will probably be gone by the end of 2012!

A trio of KBD minis that had been sitting behind a liquor store counter with a 'not for sale' sign for far too long. I had never tried Kentucky Vintage, Rowan's Creek, or Noah's Mill and saw 50ml store samples as a inexpensive opportunity (after I convinced the owner to sell to me, of course). I quite enjoyed Kentucky Vintage and Noah's Mill, but none really stood out as special.

Very simple: Evan Williams. Had an extravagant December and a couple crazy bottles on tap for January; just wanted something simple and straightforward.

Had a bit of a drive home from dinner and a party in the city last night, so I stuck with beer. (Surprisingly, my wife had an Old Fashioned and a house-special bourbon drink over dinner.)

But said beers included Court Avenue Fire Engine Red, Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad, Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout and Goose Island King Henry, so I was enjoying some bourbon in "spirit"....

Had some OGD 114, followed by a bit of ORVW 10/107, and capped off the midnight hour with some '10 Stagg

Well, I did the beer, the wine, the champagne, and had little pours of JWDant BIB, ORVW 10/107, OWA, BMH, and VWSR12. And lots of water in between to make sure I started 2012 off without a headache.

We had a bottle of Infinium- a collaboration of SAm Adams and Weinstephan, very tasty. This beer is very smooth and clean, with an amazing subtle finish that shows no sign of it's 10+ abv. We also sampled some van winkle rye, which is also most excellent.

Happy new year !

Vodka and lemonade with my homemade Marashino cherries last night today PBHC 2010442b8f8c-c114-5fd4.jpg

I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.443710,-83.491647

Is that a REAL Cohiba in the photo???????

I was sitting in the hot tub looking out over "The Grand Valley" of western Colorado sipping a 2010 GTS, smoking a real Cohiba maduro I brought back from Iraq and watching commercial pyrotechnics being launched from 3 different locations.

Nice night so I did not turn on the jets, just soaked in the hot water and made a couple important discoveries...... A Glencairn Nosing Glass with it's solid base floats perfectly upright, and a warmed GTS sips every bit as nicely as a VSOP Cognac!

Don't know about that...I've had a couple different bottlings of 700's done at 6yr and 7yr and they were nothing to write home about. You have to get the right barrel or they're nothing special IMO.

i was making that statement light heartedly, because that 1789b bottling is so good. of course you'll want to know who's doing the picking or taste it yourself first.

but i do have to say that every one i've tried has been very good to excellent. even the party source 6 year old i thought was very good. i have no regrets making that purchase.

2011 went out with some Beam Rye. 2012 started with a resolution to never drink Beam Rye again. Fortunately it was insipid enough to prevent anything close to a hangover.
