RVTsteve
It's been a very tequila holiday so far. Starting with Centinela repo margaritas on a warm Christmas Day which turned into several pours of 1921 repo nom 1079 and then Tonala anejo 4. More of the same last couple nights. Putting some bottles to bed in the process. Happy Holidays!

HighInTheMtns
Max, what can you tell me about these? NOM 1123. Brought back from a Mexico trip, gifted to my buddy. Beautiful bottles with two pistols on the back. Will report back after we pour some.

Beautiful bottles with two pistols on the back. Will report back after we pour some. There's no pic, but I assume that you're talking about Revolucion... For me, it was an OK juice (the blanco). It didn't inspire me to pick up the rest of the line. From most of what I hear from others, they feel the same. Good, but not great.

Max Power
Yeah, sorry about that. Here is the pic: And my conclusion was about the same. It was good but nothing special. The reposado was the most enjoyable of the three. Cute lil bottles though. I'd definitely take them for my mini collection. For some reason, when cool bottles are tiny, they seem even cooler. bigtoys
Ate at Edith's in Cabo. Although reviews were mixed and it's pricey, it's worth it. Great atmosphere, fun waiters, good Mariachi band. Good food too. We had a couple of shots of this extra añejo Here's their cabinet note the silver 1800 bottles. they're done by Mexican artists in very limited editions. also note the Clase Azules. Shopping at Hacienda Tequila. Big Selection, free samples. I imagine the guy was quite surprised with my pretty big purchase. I love Day of the Dead stuff! Here's the stuff I hauled home. One suitcase weighed 65 lbs; luckily we were first class, so you get up to 70 lbs. No duty either. Kev's (MaxP) rec. Siete Leguas Extra Añejo aged 5 yrs also got a regular añejo the day before because I didn't know if I would find the D'Antaño we drank about half of this while there, but brought it home anyway. Packed it in a well sealed plastic pouch designed for wine bottles, but it worked; no leak. the Cava de Oro is another extra añejo, aged 5yrs. Sweet, but good. the Don Vito is a coffee tequila liqueur that we liked at Hacienda tequila. another extra añejo. almost didn't get this at the airport duty free shop, but couldn't resist in the end. Cool leather case and cooler bottle with glass agave plant in the middle. I have another regular bottle from my last trip to Puerto Vallarta overall, muy bien!! Eskwar
Thanks for the write-up and pics, bigtoys. We went to Cabo a few weeks back for the first time, and plan to return in a few months. We'll put Edith's on the list of possible stops, based on your due diligence here.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Max Power
Did some reviewing tonight. Here's a preview for later in January...Arta Blanco - Earthy & solid, but my least favorite of the line. Cool bottle and still worth buying.Tezon Reposado - Probably my favorite of the night. Classically done tequila with Tahona and nice agave/aging balance.Oro Azul Añejo - Lots of aging notes evident in this one. Plenty of oak and spice. A nice bottle for the price, but not a must buy. tanstaafl2
Sometimes I find I need to buy an overly pricey bottle just because. Today was one of those days! Well, actually a few days ago with the kind assistance of a fellow SBer who shipped this to me from K&L. Arrived today just in time to help me warm up from the icy polar vortex. Some info here for those not familiar with it. Couldn't wait to see just how foolish I had been so got into immediately. Although I had to let it warm up a bit as it was still quite cold when it was delivered. Turns out not so foolish! Really strong and almost peppery agave on the nose. The taste was a bit more supple but tons of body and nice long finish. Despite the excessive price it was quite a wonderful tequila. Always hard to justify the cost of these bottles but this is one I am OK with. Once.

tanstaafl2
It all depends. Honestly, I would have been disappointed had I spent $200 on it. Not because it isn't unique, but more because it just didn't have the great agave flavors that I would want in a high priced tequila. The wood from the really aged tequilas were more than my palate wanted. I did have the pleasure of talking to David Driscoll about it and how it was formulated. It's certainly an interesting an unique tequila, but perhaps I'm a bit too agave focused. This was far too woody for me to fully enjoy as an agave spirit. I suppose that maybe it's more in the wheelhouse of those that enjoy a 20+ year grain spirit. Anyway, my thoughts on it are on record. And to the credit of K&L, they did link it in their spirit blog despite it not saying that everyone should buy it. David Driscoll was really a stand up guy and was wonderful to enjoy a pour with. They really do a great job with their exclusive offerings.http://tequilatourist.blogspot.com/2013/10/review-380-fuenteseca-tequila-extra.html

Alphanumeric
I went in to a recently opened liquor store nearby and noticed this odd bird on the shelf. Did Centinela revert to the round bottles? Or did the owner just lift these from another location? They looked clean and new and I was thrown. dcbt
Anyone ever have the Corazon tequilas aged in the BTAC barrels? I'm not a big tequila guy at all but always been curious about this one (never had it).

dcbt
Marketing gimmick. 90% of tequila is aged in used bourbon barrels. This is just smart people trying to make money off of the BTAC/PVW craze. Corazon and the distillery overall makes a decent, but mediocre product. Paying $70-90 for anything that they pump out would be a mistake. Go pay $25 for Corazon reposado instead and see if you like their product because they're starting with the same base and that's the bigger part of the battle anyway. Dolph Lundgren
Anyone ever have the Corazon tequilas aged in the BTAC barrels? I'm not a big tequila guy at all but always been curious about this one (never had it).Luther and I did the whole flight three months ago and it was interesting. Corazon is actually owned by Sazerac so its pretty natural for them to experiment with BT barrels. In order of likeyness: Saz, Old Rip, Stagg and BT. The Saz had great balance between the barrel infused flavors and agave and was enjoyable. The Old Rip was good but the the sweet wheater flavor was somewhat strong and didn't mesh well with peppery agave (not to say sweetness and agave don't mesh well). Honestly, the Old Rip was a little confusing and Luther and I were scratching our heads trying to figure out whether we actually liked it. The Stagg was real interesting from an experimentation standpoint. The barrel influence was very strong and it completely unbalanced the tequila. I thought this one was ok but would rather drink Stagg straight. The BT barrel was really weak and had almost no influence on the tequila.Overall, it was a fun experiment, but I wouldn't pay more than $40 for any of these. If I just had to try/buy one, I'd pull the trigger on the Saz.
