Enjoyed some Dos Lunas Anejo during the Super Bowl. Sad I found out I liked it so much after it is gone. Would love to find some more.

I think that someone picked up the brand. I still see it advertised. I'm not sure if it is the same as I've never had the recent stuff, but there's a chance that you might be able to get it...however, it will not be at the same prices that it was one the close outs.

Question for the tequila group: have you guys had different batches of Fortaleza blanco and anejo? What were your experiences with those batches? Any of the them stellar and must buys?

I've heard that as far as the blanco, the 4 (dubbed "liquid meth") 14 and 16 are really good. Not too sure about the anejo and variance in those batches.

I picked up the Lot 16 blanco after hearing that it was stellar and it is certainly a cut above. One thing to note is that does not mean that the Lot 16 repo and añejo come from that base. I actually have no idea what lots would do that. They might not even be released yet. As for the aged versions, it seems that the older lots of the añejo are likely better as they spent more time aging. Because of demand, they shortened the time in the barrel for some recent lots and the quality wasn't up to the early standard. For the repo, I've only had one lot so I can't really say from personal experience.

I've read that Lot 14 of the anejo is the cutoff for really good vs. thinner juice. I was wondering if anyone here has had a chance to do a side-by-side with some. I've got some bottles to kill but I plan on opening a lot 12 anejo in the coming months. Obviously I'll report back.

I have 2 añejos. I think a lot 12 and an 18 right now. I know that they planned on getting back to the older age, but not sure if they did or if/when it happened.

Nice find. It will serve you well. Tonight, I made palomas for Mrs. Power and me with a vatted mix of reposados from my tasting a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be a good choice. Elements of all of the tequilas thrown into the mix.

Tasting and reviewing the K&L Campeón Blanco tonight. If you live near a K&L or are getting a shipment from them, pick up this tequila. It's a pure and clean agave flavor for $30. Maybe not as good a mouth feel as Fortaleza, but it's damn close and is 2/3 of the price. This is one of the best blanco deals I've found in a while. Cheap enough to mix, but after sipping it you might not want to.

That's a solid price for it. I wouldn't hesitate if I needed a blanco. It's not as good as the Campeon that I wrote about for $30, but that requires shipping. :(

Thanks again Max. I bought a bottle. Will let you guys know I think later.

To my noob tequila palate this stuff is goooooood. :yum:

A 6 year old version. The mid to late 2000s always seem to be good stuff with the Cuervo RdF. When my bottle runs out, I'd probably pick up another at $45. Salud!

Nice. I got a liter bottle of this a while back. It doesn't fit anywhere but on my bar so it's default become my go to tequila pour. I'm not complaining. Except that there's only half the bottle left.

Saw this today and considered it but passed. Herradura Reserva 2012 Reposado finished in port casks.

Anybody have any experience with it?

I know Brad/Biskuit liked it!

The cat is dead!

Curiosity finally got me to bring the Herradura Reserve Port Finish home today. Downside is that like most tequila's it is an 80 pf bottle. But I finally caved anyway.

I'd have to say it was a little muted in the mouthfeel department - expected given the ABV I suppose. I rather enjoyed it - was expecting a little more bite but was still nicely agave-flavored and was well rounded by the light wood influence.

I plan on hitting those samples pretty hard now that our weather is starting to warm up. ;)

Dinner at Mezcal in Worcester last night - first taste of a Clase Azul Blanco. Wow. Never thought tequila could be like this, it just blew me away. Buttered toffee, creamy/malty agave. I actually ordered the Reposado, but the server made an error ... I'm glad she did because I wouldn't have tried the blanco otherwise.

Repos have a lighter feel for sure. I'm a sucker for the perfect balance of the agave and the barrel. Blancos can get to green and/or spicy...añejos can get to syrupy or woody. A good repo hits my sweet spot with the perfect balance of both. Stepping back from higher proof spirits can be a bit of a challenge, but I like how tequila challenges every part of the palate. You'll have to let me know what your favorites are and I can make more recommendations from there.

love this passage from Tom Robbins-

[h=1]“Now tequila may be the favored beverage of outlaws but that doesn't mean it gives them preferential treatment. In fact, tequila probably has betrayed as many outlaws as has the central nervous system and dissatisfied wives. Tequila, scorpion honey, harsh dew of the doglands, essence of Aztec, crema de cacti; tequila, oily and thermal like the sun in solution; tequila, liquid geometry of passion; Tequila, the buzzard god who copulates in midair with the ascending souls of dying virgins; tequila, firebug in the house of good taste; O tequila, savage water of sorcery, what confusion and mischief your sly, rebellious drops do generate!”[/h]

Took Max's recommendation on a good starter bottle... so picked up an El Jimador Repo locally to give tequila a try. Very nice, having it again tonight to confirm that I may need to explore this spirit more. Yup, time to make some more room in the bar.

You and I may have many conversations in the future...
