Clavius
Not a bourbon but I just cracked open the bottle of High West Campfire I bought. This stuff is good, real good. Not as much peat/smoke as I expected but this is a really great blend. I just wish it was about $40 instead of the $60 I just paid for it.

I'm finishing up the evening with the same pour. Every time I go to this bottle, I remember, and expect, the greatness I have experienced with it previously...And, it NEVER, EVER disappoints. I've never had a bourbon do that. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, the best whiskey I have ever tasted.

Others seem to have, also. When I see it, I'll be picking it up.:toast:

Phil T
On my last trip to TPS, I picked up my first Beam product, a TPS KCSB for $35. Can't put my finger on it, but I just don't dig it. I won't be buying any more.

tanstaafl2
Wandered in to Mac McGee's for dinner with a couple of friends. Along with the Shepherd's Pie we all tried the whiskley flight that evening which consisted of Michael Collins 10yo, Ben Riach 12 and Larceny. For me the Michael Collins was the winner with Larceny a close second. Just wasn't feeling the scotch. Despite that not sure I would add the Michael Collins to my bar. With a touch of smoke it was more scotchy than the scotch (which was a light Speyside malt that was supposed to have a touch of smoke but was mostly honey) even though I know that not all scotch has to be peaty. This one was just a little too plain vanilla.

smokinjoe
From the "They don't make bourbon like this, anymore" category, it's an '82 Yellowstone Mellow Mash 7yr 91 proof. It's not that it's "better" than bourbons of today, as I enjoy a number of current bourbons at least as much, if not better than the Mellow Mash. But, it is indeed, different, as many of those old-timey whiskies are, as compared to the newer offerings. This one doesn't have that "rumminess" quality, like many of the oldies. Rather, this one has that old-timey, "sweet woodiness" to it. If I were to describe this whiskey in one word, it would be "chewy". And, it's a wonderful treat. petrel800
Last night I spent some time with WT 101 Rye, Sazarac 18, and a 5 year Willett Rye. I know the WT 101 Rye gets a lot of thumbs up around here, and I think it is a decent pour, but the 5 year Willett Rye in my opinion completely overshadows it with it's youthful power and it's rye flavors. It works great in a cocktail, on ice, or straight up. Definitely worth the $10 extra, and if it remains as available as it is around me, I won't fret too much over not being able to get WT 101 Rye.That being said, as always, Saz 18 does not disappoint. Special Reserve
A little PHC 10 aside the morning coffee. A wonderful way to start a relaxed day where the big agenda item is admiring the scenery outback. A little snow fall sure makes the cardinals stand out.
