Not much snow yet, but it's definitely a night for premium spirits. Governor closed the roads in MA at 4:00pm, so no reason to go anywhere and nothing open to go to.

Started off before dinner with a lovely martini made with Greylock gin, 3:1 with Dolin dry vermouth.

Now it's after dinner, and lots of little pours are planned with some fruit and sorbet for dessert while listening to the snowplows go by:

OFBB 2011

4R1B LE 2012

4RSmB LE 2012

4R1B OESO, Julio's Liquors selection

Rittenhouse Rye BiB

Weller 12

VW Lot B

Welcome to the first Storm of the Century of the season!

A nice bold pour of V17 to ease my shame after having my ass handed to me by my six year old son while playing Brunswick Bowling on the PS3 tonight.

Started out with a healthy glob of 4R Yellow Label, but it just wasn't doing it for me. So, decided to pump-up-the-volume with a dollop of '04 Stagg. Went back and re-touched with a smidge more of the 4RYL.

One fine Gillmanization, if I do say so meself.

:toast:

Side note to self: Save the Yellow Label for Summertime. Shines best in warmer temps.

Just some plain Old Forester Signature. Never fails to deliver.

Agreed. First time drinking in a week or so and went with this. Very good.

ORVW107, KC, Willett PS, HW RR, JPS18 1B, Lot B, PHC '12, FR LE SmB '12, PVW20...and that's all I remember drinking, but there may have been one or two more. For the last several years I've hosted a whiskey tasting for my birthday. My friends each bring a bottle of bourbon or rye and I share a few of my favorite bottles. It's always a fun night and a great way to celebrate your birthday. The next morning always includes a fun hungover conversation with my wife about where we are going to put the new bottles.

When I was at TPS a month ago, I grabbed a VOB BIB family sized. Got around to cracking it today. Almost forgot what a great value it is

Great value and great base for a cocktail. Believe I'll have one with lunch.

Really wish that I would have bought one or two of these at Binny's when I had the chance. I waited too long to pull the trigger and they were gone.

They are THAT good. I own a few of them. Maybe the next Chicago social there will be one...

Drinking it now.

DW measured 24 inches of snow in the front yard, out away from all the drifting. Between the house and the garage, the drifts piled up to almost four feet high.

I spent all afternoon until dinnertime shoveling out the driveway and front and back walkways, with a little help from a neighbor and his snowblower. I also raked a whole lot of snow off the roof and onto the long-suffering front bushes.

I'm relaxing this evening with OFBB 2011, Julio's Liquors select RHF, and OGD 114. I also seem to be craving agave, so a little Herradura anejo tequila may flow.

Snowstorms leave a lot of time for whiskey and contemplation.

Went to Buffalo Trace tonight for their Valentine's Day dinner. Must say it exceeded my expectations greatly. They poured seemingly endless cocktails with BT and the six course meal and bourbon tasting was great and included ETL, ER, BT, WSR, and others. Really cool event that I would recommend to everyone for next year.

Four Roses Yellow Label, best 80 proofer available today and with a silky, spicy/floral complexity. And great pricing, as it happens.

Had my first pour of Bulleit at an Irish Pub tonight. The bar-chic was incredibly generous, just about filling my 5 oz rocks glass, and the whiskey was pretty darn good. I knew from reviews that it was rye-heavy and spicy, but I was surprised at how smooth it was at the same time.

Definitely a fan, and will have to add it to my rotation.

I just opened a bottle of the original Four Roses Limited Edition. 2007 Jim Rutledge 40th Anniversary.

Barrel proof at 102.2, perfection!
