A friend of mine from Utah gave me a bottle as a gift, and I was all jazzed about it until I tasted it. I was not impressed, and I prefer the flavor of several EC12 private K&L barrels to be honest...

Anyway, it's nice to be able to check one thing off the list of "Tried Once, and No Need To Try Again" :grin:

It seems the Batch 5 has popped up in Atlanta. Picked one up today. I guess 4 missed us all together. Or at least I missed it.

Batch 1 – 67.1% / 134.2-Proof

Batch 2 – 68.5% / 137.0-Proof

Batch 3 – 66.6% / 133.2-Proof

Batch 4 – 66.2% / 132.4-Proof

Batch 5 – 67.4% / 134.8-Proof

Indeed I did get one of the Batch 2 bottles while I was on Oahu. If the above was confusing I meant to say that Batch 4 seems to have missed Atlanta. I have at least one from each of the other batches.

Batches 4 and 5 being released so close together here seems to have done some work on slowing the speed people are picking it up. I bought my batch 5 bottle last Friday and there's still bottles on the shelf as of yesterday. Last go around you had a couple days max.

I'm going to update my tasting notes (yet again) on this one. My bottle's been open for a few weeks now and it's evolved in a very big, very positive way. My first tasting notes included a dominant note of molasses and not too much wood. I updated that about a week later to include a pretty prominent cedar note on the nose. This third update is to say that the trend toward woodiness has continued. The cedar note is more pronounced, as are the oak notes. The molasses remains in tact, though it's not quite as dominant before; instead, it's volleyed against the wood notes and a slightly tannic dark chocolate note. This bottle keeps getting better and better. I'm already dreading finishing it.

Thank you for the updated notes. My batch 4 has been consistent however I admit my nose and palate is much more of a novice level. The molasses notes hasn't changed much, the strength from the alcohol is not as prominent. The woodiness of oak has been about the same, but a bit more dry. FYI, K&L just recently received their final four casks of EC12. One already sold out. They mentioned that no more barrel picks will be done within the Elijah Craig 12 line. I can't remember where I read it, but rumors were they suspended the program to ensure there is enough barrels for their regular release and Barrel Proof bottles.

If I had a bottle of EC12 for every time I heard some yahoo LQ owner or spirits buyer say "we got the last one!" I'd own all the EC12 in the ever-expanding interstellar galaxy of bullshit.

HH has so much EC12 they decided to come up with a brand new product called ECBP while still bottling the hell out of EC12 (notice more magnums on the shelves?) and still selling the hell of single barrels. Something is not adding up.

I found some in the wild today, its been over a year since that has happened. In an Ohio store no less. I was told they had just gotten in a case. It was interesting that 3 bottles were 133.2 and 3 bottles were 134.8.

Great find! Each time I pour from mine I become more enamored of it. If I stumble on any I'll certainly bunker up.

After a big Woe is Me post a few weeks back, lamenting I'd never find a bottle of ECBP, I finally found one (batch 4). :grin: I half-jokingly asked the liquor store manager if he had an ECBP behind the counter. He said yes! Lol. He had a single bottle and said its mine if I wanted it. He surmised someone working there had stashed it a few weeks ago, but decided it'd sat there long enough. $45 out the door.

I'm enjoying a nice fat pour now. This stuff is a bourbon lover's dream. Its certainly fun and palatable at full proof, but I knocked it down to probably ~55%, and man oh man does it open up nicely. Worth every penny ( and probably a lot more).

$45 for a barrel proof bourbon, especially Elijah Craig is such a bargain! There is so many ways to enjoy with neat, with a little water, with ice, mixed with EC12. It is a versatile bottle. Congratulations on your find! Enjoy!

I am still amazed with it. This is literally my daily pour. Just had two doubles already with melted ice.

Make sure you find the right amount of water to add for yourself.

Once again I want to give a big thank you to Heaven Hills for this great bourbon for what it is and somewhat available; already six releases in a short period of time and many gift shop versions.
