Had a mix of WLW 2011 and Weller 12, about 50/50. Found it a touch hot and maybe a touch woody, so I added a splash of some late-model SW Old Fitz BIB. I guess it was a Fishbowl mingling, and not bad at that.

Atta boy Tom!

No vatting for me tonight. It was a long, but productive weekend for me for a change. I'm treating myself to a couple of pours of VSOF BHC.

OGD114 to start, nice Weller 12 now, thinking about following up with a EC12BP to finish off the evening or maybe a little Mellow Corn for something completely different.

Really amazes me how tuned my palette has gotten to higher proofs in the last few months, 90 pr Weller drinks so easy, and anything under 90 seems too diluted and really needs to be 100 or over to "feel" like bourbon., yall have ruined me.

Drinking a couple of pours of 2012 4RLE then jump to ECBP. Both are really nice but after jumping to the ECBP, definitely taste the difference and the boldness. The 4RLE is definitely much more refine and balance. Dare I say that I like the 4RLE a little better? Maybe, but they are really two different drink for different moment. I like them both a lot.

Cheers

Hugh

I'm currently trying to make my bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof last a lifetime.... IT"S SO LOVELY! I predict little chance of it making another month, even though I'm trying to ration it. Nobody seems able to get another bottle of it around here. Damned Shame! :smiley_acbt:

OFBIB DSP-16 from 1991. Not mind-blowing, but at 7.99 a 750ml, it's punching way above it's weight.

Finished a bottle of 4R Single Barrel 2012. I struggled to love this whiskey. Good, yes. But maybe a little obtuse, a little hard to embrace.

And then for a second pour, I had a over a rocks a drink from a bottle I vatted of regular 4Roses SmB and some HHBIB (6yr), and isn't it delicious? Like a sweet, spicy, vanilla adult ginger ale.

They did it to me too. In order for me to really get that ZING! it has to be 90 - 100 - 114 proof now.

Thanks alot you bucha rummies.

Started with Elijah Craig 18, moved on to Weller Special Reserve, finishing with Jefferson Reserve

Old Fashioned cocktail throw down. JBB vs. OGD BIB. And the winner is............................................ Too close to call. OGD BIB leads in the burst of bourbon flavor through the fruit/hint of sweet. JBB leads for refined oak and being a bit more subtle. I think I have to have a few more to properly "research" a winner.

Had to have a little bourbon that started it all for me...Blantons. Always seems to taste better the longer the bottle is open.

Got some angostura orange bitters from Amazon today, for some reason no one seems to carry the orange unless is fey brothers and they're a little meh. Having a nice tall old fashioned with it and AAA as a followup to a couple small pours of Henry Mckenna BiB and FRSB

Rare Breed. Here is the review I posted in the Tastings fourm:

Bottle: BT-03RB

Proof: 108.2

Color: Light tea. Almost apple juice (what can I say, I have kids :D)

Nose: Vanilla, spice, lime-type citrus, shoe polish.

Taste: Rye, spice, oak, tangerine. Takes off quick and then planes out nicely.

Finish: Finish is long and dry. Lots of spice.

Overall: Very smooth with a great flavor. Once this bottle is gone it's going to be hard not to replace it PDQ.
