Yeti
Eagle Rare is made by Buffalo Trace, isn't it? I think I read that it tastes like BT that has been aged longer. More intensity, and more wood.I didn't see anyone respond to this, Alden. ER10 is the "big brother" to BT, that's correct. I enjoy them both, but think that ER10 has a slight edge when the price difference is <$5, but it can occasionally be >$10. In that case, it's hard not to go with the BT, assuming you enjoy both to begin with.

I have a bottle of Special Reserve. How are they different?
JPBoston
I've been thinking about getting some Weller 12. I have a bottle of Special Reserve. How are they different? Not sure specifically about comparing W12 to the W:SR (I always go for the OWA)... but to me, the W12 is smoother and with more barrel (wood) flavor, at the cost of being too thin, likely due to it's much lower proof (again, compared to OWA, not the Special Reserve). Which is why so many of us enjoy the "SB Blend" of mixing OWA and W12.
Old Dusty
I've been thinking about getting some Weller 12. I have a bottle of Special Reserve. How are they different?Main difference, of course, is age. WSR used to be age stated at 7 yrs. Now no age statement. Both WSR and the 12 are cut to 90 proof but as far as I know all three (counting the OWA) are the same juice just different age or proof.

squire
They are certainly kindred and each has it's own virtues. The Reserve at 90 proof is arguably the best value, especially for cocktails, the 12 of course offers age but the 107 is my pick of the bunch. You can always flavor a whisky down but you can't flavor one up and the higher proof starts out with the most flavor of the lot.
KySalesRep
Having a pour of OWA 7/107 tonight. If I could find some more of this age stated OWA, I think it would become my daily pour. Very tasty stuff!

petrel800
Started with some Johnny Drum Private Selection. About my 4th or 5th pour out of the bottle, first time trying it, doubt I'd get another one. Hopefully it gets a little better.Switched to Larceny and OGD114, definitely enjoying them.
