After nearly three hours total of movig snow today, plus normal work, started the wind down with some WTRB and ending with some Binny's Willett 21yr.

Got to love the MN spring, 8+ inches today and just finally letting up.

Found a liter of mid-90's Kentucky Tavern at $14 so I picked it up and popped it open. At 80 proof it's thin with very little finish but not hot at all. Very sweet which is the only noticeable trait. For the price I think it will be a decent summer pour over ice or an easy mixer with some vanilla soda.

Russell's Reserve SmB 10 yr. Not sure how this one escaped my notice until yesterday, but it's VERY tasty!

Finished off the evening with a our of FRSmB LE '12,I must admit that I have been on quite a beer run after the Gazebo festivities this past weekend.

I absolutely savored a couple of neat pours of a newly purchased bottle of Old Forester Signature last night. Surprisingly floral throughout. I'm more expectant of leather and heavy flavors in the Signature. This was so floral, that if tasted blind, I would have guessed a Q yeast Four Roses iteration.

I agree with you Joe. Gary had a bottle we tasted by the pool (versus the gazebo :cool:) against a late 70's dusty. A much lighter style and as you say floral. A very good bang for your buck whiskey. We also tasted against current Fighting Cock and the consensus was the Signature tasted richer and more complex but the FC had its own merits and was enjoyed.

I have read several articles about classic cocktails recently. Many of these promote rye as the "only" whiskey for Manhattans and Old Fashioneds. So I made up some Manhattans with Dickel Rye and Jim Beam Black. I disagree with the "cocktail experts" I have recently read. I much prefered the bourbon Manhattan over the rye. I really enjoyed the Rye neat and with a couple cubes though.

I got a little heavy handed emptying a bottle of HH White last night. Not sure how much, but enough to raise some eyebrows in the "how much do you drink" thread :lol:

We use the Ritt BiB for our Manhattans and it tops any of the bourbons we have. To be fair though, Mrs. Flyer uses the Ritt as her cocktail base 90% of the time so she may be a bit biased.

I just had 2 oz of 4R YL and I'm thinking of making a bold move, and switching to SMS in about another hour.

In the midst of a blind comparison of AAA 10 yr and AAA 10 star, with availability being the key issue (they're both pretty close price-wise, but the 10 yr is harder to come by). I love a two-horse race where regardless of the outcome, I'm the winner :grin:

Celebrating some good news today. Started slow and then ramped it up: Blanton's ---> Rock Hill Farms ---> Sazerac 18 (2012) ---> Pappy Van Winkle 15-Year (2007). All neat, all the time.

Some Noah's Mill, then some EC 18, both over ice tonight and both hitting the spot. NM very flavorful, a little hot due to the proof, more in your face. EC 18 woody, flavorful, caramelly.
