What Bourbon Are You Drinking? Spring 2013

Just had a "date night" at home with the wife. We watched The Life of Pi, ate garlic chicken pasta, and drank a bottle of Yellow Tail Shiraz.

So, no bourbon for me tonight. I'm breaking a long streak.

I had been working on a newly acquired OWA NAS. I've given up for awhile, I think it's just too hot and not very flavorful now. Sad since the NAS had been pretty good for awhile. Either BT hit a wall or I just got a bad batch.

Tonight I broke down and opened up a Saz Jr. Yummy.

Four roses single barrel limited 2011 for me. Damn good.

Having a small pour of 2012 GTS mellowed with some water. it has gotten a bit better with some air, but is still not the same knockout as the 2009/2010 bottlings.

Enjoying a mingle my dad gave me. At Christmas, I sent him a 200 mL of Vintage 17, but didn't tell him what it was (he had to guess, and I'd give him a "warm/cold" response to his inquiries). He had never tasted Vintage 17, so that was a bit unfair He returned the favor (and the bottle) with a mingle, but I have to guess what it is. From this first dram, I'm sure there is some high-rye bourbon involved, but will have to study it more closely. :drinking:

Sipping on Parker's Heritage "Blend of Mashbills" edition. Very smooth, very tasty.

Drinking some OFBB '12 and PHC '10 at Fountainhead. The bartender busted the cork opening the Parkers but was able to get it out with a corkscrew. I think I need to stay and finish the bottle now.

Opened up the 4Rs PS (OESF, 10y 4m). Cut it to a 100prf. Nose is nice--mint, vanilla. Thick and chewy. Has a nice long spicy finish. Definite mint notes throughout.

Having my first pour of Noah's Mill after grabbing a bottle in KY late last week. Interesting. The first few pours I tried were good, but nothing special. Adding a few drops of water seems to have helped it tonight and I am enjoying it much more.

Just emptied the bottle of EC12. Time to move on to the ECBP; glad I was able to find 2 bottles. Bought 1 tasted it and rushed back to buy another. It was that good.

It was from the gift shop. If I remember correctly they had the following:

4 Year Rye - $35

9 Year SB - $60

12 Year SB - $72

20 Year SB (Can't remember the price, I think it was around $155)

23 Year Vintage Rye (Can't remember the price, I think this one was over $200)

Prices are approximates from what I remember. I tasted the 20 year and while I liked it, I expected it to have more aged/woody profile to it that wasn't there. Not that that's a bad thing in this case, it just tasted younger than I expected.

I saw some of the 4yr Rye at one of the Liquor Barns for around the same price.

I might be hitting the Bourbon Trail (or at least part of it) at the end of the month. I have heard about Liquor Barn. Is it's pricing worthy of a stop?

Their prices seemed very reasonable to me, consistently a few bucks cheaper then what I can find in Michigan.

Bought two bottles of the Eagle Rare 10 yr old SB...have tried it in the past and always like it. I also bought a bottle of Larceny...I had some a little while ago and quite liked it.

Typically, I buy Evan Williams SB by the case...and am down to my last bottle. All three brands I mentioned are smooth and not expensive...an excellent value for a sipping whiskey.
