Finally cracked open the BMH 16. It tastes just like something else I've had before, but what I had before cost a lot less.

A pour from a newly cracked, family size VOBBIB (decanted into the everyday size). This great value bourbon has never tasted better. So clean on the nose, and caramel dipped apple (greenish on the apple) over the palate. A great medium oak influence on the finish. This whiskey is in my wheelhouse, right now. But then again, it never really misses there.

Speaking of Barton an oldly cracked pre Saz bottle of BIB I had brought to my vodka drinking buddy's house a few years back was still surviving and mighty drinkable on a return visit for dinner last Saturday night. post-3665-14489819146772_thumb.jpg

Just re-acquainted myself with Evan Williams 1783 (new bottle, no age). Veeeery Minty! I like it well enough to seek a trial/comparison with an older (10-year) bottle of 1783 in an effort to expose similarities and differences. My baby boy will get me one of those oldies soon enough (thanx Dude!). My mouth is already watering.

WT101, RR10/101 and some Rare Breed for the finale. Good stuff!

After a delivery from Astor, I sampled some Black Dirt bourbon and Widow Jane Rye this evening.

Enjoyed a pour of bourbon from a WT101 bottle at a business dinner (which it may or may not have been - came off to me as a bit smooth for WT101, but at least didn't taste like rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring )

Had some RR 90 with the old label after dinner - it tastes almost the same as the newer one, which is good.

Also, the place I ate dinner at had multiple Kariuzawas. I tried a cask strength 12 year old and it was fantastic. I know its not bourbon, but its pretty rare to find Kariuzawas in the States.

Dolph-

Which 12yr Karuizawa did you have?

It was the Spirit of Asama - 55% (so I'm guessing cask strength). The color was golden hay, different from some of the other crimson Karuizawas on the shelf (like the Noh 31 yr old). It was very malty and a little hot initially, but opened beautifully with a splash of water - leather, wood polish, and sweet fruits (green grapes) on the palate, and a earthy greenness on the finish. It kind of reminded me of the Glen Garioch 12, but better. I wish there was more Japanese whiskey Stateside. Nikka is planning building in the US Market, though, so I guess thats a start.

Dropped the dregs of a Ritt BiB into a New Holland Hopivore. Not bad.

I'm on an Ancient Age run these days. I don't know, I bought four bottles (13.50€ each, cheap!) and summer just has begun, so I drink it with ginger ale, really enjoyable.

Some 1792 RR - had this bottle on the chopping block (meaning if I ran out of room, I'd just dump it to make room for something else) as I had gone so long without touching it, and now I'm not quite sure why. Nothing wrong with it, but apparently I'm burdened with too much good hooch

I think I have a bottle of that so I'm looking forward to popping the cork on that one.

I'm really looking forward to Chichibu coming to the US too - I just hope prices are decent.

Working my way through they last inch of a very tasty private selection EC12. Got a couple more bunkered, wondering if I should scoop another case. Really nice pick

W12 and Jeff18. Not sure where I'll head next.

The next stop on that progression is WLW OR PVW 20/23, no?

Yes I suppose so, but thinking something completely different as neither pour has really done it for me tonight.

Polished an old bottle of Booker's off. Kinda sad about it since I won't probably ever replace it. I have an apologists' love of Jimmy Beam products.

Followed it up with a Ritt BIB which is nice but not really hitting the spot. Might just have a little Sazerac and call it quits.
