Having a little Weller 12 while tuning into the NBA finals after a rough few days at work. This is really hitting the spot.

Enjoying some OGD114 playing guitar for the neighborhood. OGD114 is a glass of talent....well...from my point of view.

Started the evening with some EWSB '00 and pre-fire HH Dant while grilling some bourbon-peppercorn pork chops. Then, enjoyed a couple of Kahn's SB picks: BT #150 and OWA #18. The Kahn's bottles really hit the spot!

Did you get the SBs at the downtown store?

Sipping on a little John J. Bowman this evening. Really hitting the spot after watching the Spurs win and now watching the Braves/Dodgers game.

Nope - from the Keystone store. The BT is from '10. Had it in the bunker for a while. I think they've done another one recently, but I haven't tried it.

Having a healthy pour of 2013 FR SB. Orange scented honey anyone?

Started with some Rare Breed and then a little Russel's 10 for comparison. You can certainly tell the family resemblance.

I'm getting to the point that if I got left on the desert island with Rare Breed, 4RSmB and Lot B....I'd be a happy man.

Finishing off the night with some 4RSmBLE'12 - it's a well crafted dram and starting to grow on me.

Man, I may need to open one soon then. I had a Blanton's once that was just like this, and while it was really on the sweet side, the taste and nose was out of this world!!

it was nearly a perfect dessert drink. Mmmm......

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, the 86th Street is pretty bare.

Last evening, first pour was Bowman Brothers SmB, and second pour was EC12/ECBP 1:1 vatting. I kind of enjoyed the Bowman Bros. A nice change of pace, good flavor, and a bit of uniqueness with the Virginia re-distilling. That said, it's not something I would go out of my way to repurchase. At that price (around $30), it's competing with the likes of FRSB and doesn't stand up to that, and exceeds the price of OWA, W12, EC12, EWSB, etc., so it's got some tough competition.

The EC12/ECBP blend was quite good yet again (I made a full 750ml batch a couple of weeks ago with a store bottling of EC12). The blend is a very nice 114pf, and is still quite dark, dense, and packs a punch.

Attended a little whiskey tasting last night that had a bit of variety. Put on by a local retailer but it was mostly what the distributors wanted put some emphasis on. For $10, mostly to cover the appetizers, it was a pretty good deal. Tried most everything and especially ones I had not had before.

CANADIAN

Pike Creek, port finish - Light but very enjoyable.

BOURBON

Four Roses Single Barrel

Redemption High Rye

Bowman Brothers Small Batch

Old Medley - Seemed like it was sourced from HH to me but just a guess.

Belle Meade Small Batch - seemed a similar source to Old Medley but I thought it was just a little bit better which surprised me.

Homestead Barrel Proof - gotta agree, that is one ugly bottle...

Smooth Ambler Old Scout Bourbon 6yo 99pf

Breuckelen 77 New York Wheat

Breuckelen 77 Rye & Corn

Dancing Pines Bourbon - Disappointing and probably the least appealing of the evening. Hate to rag on it but it was somewhat peculiar with a strong piney scent and taste. A bit like someone had flavored Listerine with a pine scented car freshner...

RYE

High West Rendevouz - Surprised to see the distributors pushing this and other HW products at this event but I wasn't going to object! Why yes, I'll have another free sample!

High West Double Rye

Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye 7yo 99 pf

E.H Taylor Rye

SCOTCH/OTHER

Glenfarclas 12yo

Great King Street, Artist's Blend - mild and servicable but not particular remarkable

High West Campfire

Balcones Single Malt - reminded me a bit of an early bottle of Stranahans, which is a good thing (no idea what Stanahans is like now after all the changes in personnel)

May have been a couple others that I have forgotten. Then as the event wound down I treated the store owner and the distributor rep for the Bowman, which is relatively new to Georgia, to a little John J. Bowman TPS Barrel #45 and the Abraham Bowman Port Wood finished bourbon in hopes I can get first crack at any Bowman special releases they can bring into the state (Can't hurt to try...). Now the store owner wants to do his own private barrel of Bowman!

Finally we finished the evening with a bit of AE rum cask rye. This was the best whiskey of the night by far and the general consensus of everyone else was the same.

I don't know which is more impressive, the line up or you still being able to taste something at the end.

...or remember the line-up, or be coherent enough the next day to write about it...Sounds like a great night, and that's impressive about the AE Rye. May have to pick up a bottle.

Old Medley tasted like Barton to me, but who really knows. FRSBLE13 Baby saz, Willet 5yr (velvety deliciousness)
