Filled a sample bottle for some clandestine consumption last night. Wanted to finish my 2013 FR1B but it only filled about 80%. Topped it off with some 17 yr OBSV from the gift shop. Deeeeelish.

OWA TPS bottling while grilling. Great way to spend a Thursday evening.

I don't know what I'm drinking right now. An unlabeled sample showed up at my office today. My only clue was, "It's a dusty". I'm thinking it's a ND product. Kind of thin, maybe OGD 86, but it's different from any of the bottles I have. Got that caramel, though. Whatever it is, I like it.

Ready to know what it is?

To stay on topic. Just poured some early 80's OC 10/86. Haven't taken a sip yet, but the nose is very nice.

It had more fruit to it at the end of the glass than I'm accustomed to. I kept thinking Eagle Rare 101, but I don't think the proof was anywhere near that. I give up.

Well, you got the bird part right (and you were correct about the proof). It was Wild Turkey 80 proof from 1987. That sample has gone from NC to HI to NC to KY to NC and back to KY. Long story. Surprisingly flavorful for 80 proof, though it's one I typically pass on unless priced dirt cheap.

Started with an ETL, now enjoying some pulls from a glass of VOB BIB.

Well, what do you know. That's the softest WT I've ever had, but it was surprisingly tasty. Thanks, Chris.

I'm darn near to the bottom of a 1999 pewter top WTKS and I'll be sad to see it go by the weekend.

And I thought I was well-travelled. But I bet there is some half-full, long forgotten flask in some member's luggage that probably has that itinerary beat by a country mile :) It's a wide world of whiskey out there!

Had some 4Roses this week, and some OGD... time for a wheater tonight.

I think some Weller 12 later on.

Passed on the JPS 21 again at $130ish. Saw an Old Scout 6yo bourbon and 7yo Rye in the low $30's (99 pf) that I hadn't seen locally before as well as a "77" wheat whiskey and "rye & corn" whiskey, both at 90 pf, from a craft distiller that I recognize from the gin world, Breuckelen Distilling in Brooklyn, NY. They proudly indicated they were both 280 or so DAYS old and no doubt had been aged, such as it was, in small casks. They were around $44. They both looked darker than the Old Scout whiskey!

I decided I would pass for now as I hope to be able to get a taste of all four tomorrow evening at a tasting event. Maybe I will be surprised but I don't think a taste is going to convince me to change my mind about the "77" whiskeys.

Went to a wine tasting last night sponsored by a store I frequent and the owner had slipped in a little port and whiskey for me. I tried one of the Old Scouts (the bourbon I think but not sure because there was a lot of wine, champagne, port and other whiskey to be had there!) which was very serviceable but for low $30's I decided not to buy any for now. I presume they are both LDI whiskey although I didn't check that closely.

I also tried both of the Breuckelen 77 whiskeys, which are locally made craft whiskey and not sourced but are quite young and aged in small barrels. Didn't have much expectation but found the wheat whiskey to be pretty drinkable! Didn't care as much for the "corn and rye" mashbill. Probably not a regular option in the mid $40's drinkable but maybe a one time buy for something a bit different. Sounds like they are a bit like Corsair in that they do pretty much everything in house and aged in small barrels.

Before heading out to dinner last night enjoyed a pour of ORVW 107, and a version of SB Blend: 50% OWA; 30% W12 and 20% WSR:cool:. Makes a very nice wheater pour.
