Found this the other day at my local store. Judging by the bottling date and totally different price tag format it's probably been in the back room at my local store for a number of years.

Not only my birth year, but same month too! I probably stopped maturing around the same time as this whisky. Couldn't pass it up.

Right behind it on the shelf was a Lag21 same as LostBottle's from the FWOTM thread, but at 5x the cost of this bottle I had to pass.

Just got back from a trip to CA where I did just a wee bit of purchasing. I'm headed back there in a few days but I plan to not get anything this time, my budget has long been exhausted!

I've never had Glendronach. I love Glenfarclas, however, and from what I hear it compares well? I have my eye on a 1996 Glendronach 17yo PX. Know anything about this bottling?

I've had 2 Single PX Cask Strength Glendronach's now (17yr/'94 & 15yr/'95). Both were good but the 15yr was after-dinner aperitif level sweet (I ended up cutting the 15yr 1:1 w/ Clynelish and that is a great blend for my taste). The 17yr is more toned down in the sweetness department compared to the 15yr but they both have this cacao dusting that is delicious.

If that 17yr '96 is in a brown tube/box/label @ cask strength, I'd get it.

I've had a few regular expression Glenfarclas now (10, 17, 25yrs) and they all seem muted (sherry-wise) compared to Glendronach.

Yes, yes it is. I'll have to see about arranging a meetup to grab those :)

I just got my delivery of some single grain whiskys. Nikka Coffey Grain and Cambus 21 from K&L. I also got the CS Glendronach 18 PX from K&L. I'm waiting to crack that for a specific occasion.

Yeah, I have to figure out the right occasion to crack mine open. And then set aside some for Chainwhip ;)

Picked up some Compass Box Asyla, Springbank 10, and Glangarioch Family Reserve at the LCBO. All quite tasty but the Springbank is exceptional.

Amen. I found a bottle of 12 year old bottled by Hart Bros at 46% for $48. Best deal in scotch I've ever known.

Picked up a Balvenie Sample pack (12 Doublewood, 17 Doublewood, 14 Caribbean Cask). Probably wouldn't have done it for the price if I knew it was only 50 mL each - not paying attention.

Passed on the new Brora 35 OB for 480ish?

The old sample packs with 12DW, 15SB and 21Port were a better value. I stocked up on them when TPS had some sort of odd deal for like $12 for the 3 pack.

Yes, I remember buying that version in the past that included the 21 portwood for $20, which was a much, much better deal. Only reason I picked the new version was because I had not tried the Caribbean Cask, but for the price of the sampler, you'd be on the way to a half a full bottle! I wasn't paying attention and thought they were 100 mL like the Glenrothes sampler packs. Balvenie has had a stratospheric rise in price - I have a couple bottles of 15 I stocked away for 40ish.
