JLH3
He also writes about cricket and lots of other things, but a post by Old Dusty talking about how Wright Thompson's writings got him started on bourbon made me want to post two of his articles concerning bourbon and America. I highly recommend them. On Pappy Van Winkle bourbonhttp://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6667949/pappy-van-winkleRemembering familyhttp://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6769890/on-whiskey-greaseAnd here are a couple of longer ones about sports.A love letter to Southern Footballhttp://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=southernfootball&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab5pos1Bullfightinghttp://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/news/story?id=2455326On the lost man who fought Alihttp://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=091216/JimmyRobinsonand one of the best stories I've ever read. About his father and the Masters he never took him to. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=fathersday
bllygthrd
Remembering Family reminded me of my dad and his unfinished bottles of scotch and bourbon ... when he passed ... complete with tax stamps and wax pen marks (to make certain I was not sneeking a swig without his knowledge) ... tanstaafl2
Read the first article. Have to confess that Pappy-philia doesn't really impress me very much. And while he can order it however he wants, ordering it on the rocks doesn't really impress me that much either. That the airport establishment served him the 23yo that way and thought he was a big deal for doing so doesn't really say that much for the establishment either to me. May well be One Flew South here in Atlanta. Never been but it is probably the kind of place that would have it in an airport. He may be a fantastic writer. But I wasn't really inspired to read the rest of the links as a result of the first one. Maybe I will come back to them later. Besides, he certainly ain't no Lewis Grizzard!
