BillP
WOW - good for you Conquistador! Awesome score on both the bourbon and the relationship with the store owner! After swearing off purchases for this year with a few exceptions, I couldn't help myself and picked up an Old Ezra 101 7yr (which I've not tried before, but a cheap mistake if I don't care for it).Thats a good one - don't worry! Wow... NICE HAUL!!! I'll be right over!!!Just kidding. But seriously... :bowdown:Very nice conquistador. I think you just blew this whole thread out of the water. Everything after this will be just BLAHBLAHBLAH. Thanks, everyone! I was floored by the generosity of the store owner. I'm glad that my efforts at building a relationship with the store paid big dividends, but I can't help but think that a lot of randomness went into making this a great day. After all, if it wasn't for my annual physical literally putting right down the street from the liquor store, I probably wouldn't have stopped by the shop for another week, and the PVW20 and the AB Gingerbread would likely have been gone by then. Plus, the fact that my annual physical involved a visit from "Mr. Jelly Finger" (OK, was that too much information?) which pushed me into buying massive amounts of whiskey today to wipe out all memories of the physical while I imbibe tonight, the store owner might not have felt I was loyal enough for the PVW20 and AB Gingerbread! Weird how things work out sometimes!
skidfive
All these store owner stories are cool to read as I also have had good luck the last two days. Stagg 13' $99.99 Private store owner who now has me on the list for the Pappy release Old Forester BB 13' $39.99 Jim Beam Signature Craft 12 $39.99 Both of these from a private store owner who put me on his list for BTAC and Pappy Elijah Craig 21 year $101 talked him down from $108, but he just didnt want me to pay with a $100 bill. I definitely think he had it mispriced or confused with the 18 year. Saz 18 13' $79.99 THH 13' $79.99 Both from a big chain liquor store. All in All, today I drove two hours to the only chain liquor store even remotely close that had any BTAC left. Called a the private store with the Stagg and the owner said he has tried calling people for the last few hours but no-one wanted it as it was not 140 proof like the other years. So I then drove two hours in the opposite direction to grab that one. Leaving their I stopped in a store I found a Rit21 in a few months back, and he had the birthday bourbon and Jim Beam sitting right there for MSRP. Sweet day off if you ask me, now to drinking

JonRob
The store I frequent finally received their 2 different Eligah Craig single barrels. Got to taste both of them before I bought one. Some of the best bourbon I've had. Gonna pick up as many bottles as I can before its all gone.
smokinjoe
Went in for my annual physical today, and stopped off at a liquor store that I frequent. This is a shop that had the Abraham Bowman Gingerbread Beer-Finished Bourbon that I would stare at each time I was in the shop, but at the asking price of $70 I could never muster up the strength to buy. I decided to restock a few empties as well as pick up some other bottles that I've been wanting to try, and brought the following up to the check-out:High West American Prairie Reserve (wanted to try) Highwest Campfire (wanted to try) CEHT Rye (wanted to try) CEHT BP (wanted to try) CEHT SmB (replacement) Willett Family Estate Single Barrel 9 Year Old (replacement - store selection, so I knew what I was getting in this NDP) W12 (replacement) WSR (replacement) The store owner asked if I had given up the PVW chase this year, because I wasn't calling him about it like I did (unsuccessfully) in previous years. I told him that I've given up the chase, but if I stumbled across a bottle I wouldn't turn it down. So he pulls out a PVW20 and offers it up at $135, for being a loyal customer. I thanked him profusely, and told him to ring it up! All told, my bill came to a staggering $450+ after taxes. But wait, there's more! As I'm packing my haul in a cardboard box, the owner says that he's down to his last AB Gingerbread Beer-Finished bourbon, and he wanted to offer it to me because I always drooled over it like Homer Simpson staring at Duff Beer or a plate of donuts. After a few seconds of thought, I figure, WTH, I lucked out with the PVW20, so I'll continue my loyalty at this shop, and tell him to ring me up again. With a smile on his face, he says: "No charge, just keep buying your liquor at my shop", and slips the bottle into the cardboard box. HELL YES, I'LL BE BACK! He's got a customer for life (or at least as long as we're both in the same area). Nice Job! You went from singing "MooooooonRiver!", to screaming "Bingstein!" , in one day!!! What a great turn of events! It seems these days, folks are singing "MooooooonRiver" after they leave the store with the limited bourbons!!! Awesome! Well Done!! As BOTY, I hereby declare this Conquistador Day! :toast: PS: I'll raise a toast to your Whiskey Monger, as well. That's a Righteous Act, he done there... RA302
Today I was shocked to be able to find and purchase (at our mega national chain liquor store) Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel & Eagle Rare 17y/o. I went to purchase a scotch my wife wanted, and was thrilled to find the OFBB and RRSB on the shelf. While looking at the scotches, a store manager asked if she could help. On a lark I asked about the ER17 (which I tried and liked at a local restaurant a few weeks ago,) and low and behold they had a bottle in the back, which got caught up in an apparent inventory snafu. As she put it, a total fluke that it was still in the store. I asked if I could buy it, she said sure, and it was mine (after paying of course.) Whatever the reason, it made my day.Regards.
