While the mashbill is the same, are they all aged in the same areas? Even if we assume JVW bought barrels of W12 - it's gotta sit another 8 years (and if I'm BT - they would be sitting on his dime since I could dump and sell W12 all day long). Point being that they don't want to increase production to meet demand, because that's their marketing strategy (and its successful). Why break what works?

Is it made by that wizard guy they have on the ORVW label? I'd pay for that tour.

"I get emails from Marines overseas.... too bad get in line" I get not allowing exception, but that's a terrible way of saying it.

That's not a wizard, it's just an old dude who is not a very good bowler. You don't want the whiskey he drinks.

An owner at a retail store told me that there was a PVW shortage because Pappy's distillery and rickhouses caught fire and most of the stock burned. I nodded my head in agreement as he grabbed a 13 GTS hidden behind the counter and sold it to me.

LOL that should be a game show. Liquor People Say the Darnedest Things.

Last weekend when asked about whether his store had gotten their VW allocation for the year yet, the liquor store employee said "Oh, we have some Pappy." I about feinted, but my excited was quickly extinguished. He walked over to the shelf and picked up an OWA and said "This. Is. Pappy. Exactly the same and no one can tell any difference." So yeah, I'd sign on to a thread entitled "Liquor People Say the Darndest Things."

I've heard the same comment, "It's the same", and expect we will hear it more as merchants try to move what they have on the shelves.

When they start charging VW prices for Weller, then we have a problem.

I wish they'd start charging Weller prices for VW instead.

If they keep Weller in the 20's I don't much care what they charge for VW. The higher the better as maybe it will finally drive the roobs off to some other type of liquor and they will leave bourbon alone.

I will still buy Pappy if I find it at around the standard retail price, a rare phenomenon of late, but even the retail prices are drifiting into the absurd.

Probably one of those things that happens in live interviews - the words are out of your mouth before you can pull them back. I'm sure he didn't mean it the way it sounded, just used a bad example to make his point.

I know he isn't trying to sound like a bad guy, he just really leaned into that one.

I did find the tasting at the end pretty entertaining. It didn't sound like they were really slamming screw tops themselves, just contrasting them to premium brand products that consider themselves far to elegant for such a pedestrian sealing device.

Are you publishing articles and cookbooks, hosting television shows, and leading a national speaking tour? ;)

Agree with Quantum's point - I think the challenge is a guy like Alton doesn't get to go into the stores himself and make those connections. He should join the GBS and we could coach him in what he needs his shoppers to do :)
