Had some Pipeworks Simcoe Ninja. I'm a fan of their single-hop Ninja series, even though the malt is a bit heavier than what I usually go for in a IIPA, and this is a fine representation. The hops are bitter pine and reedy on the palate but finish with the lovely candied note that FFF usually excels at in their I/APAs.

Victory DirtWolf. It's good but not worth what hype it has. Ryan's Chillwave beats the pants off if this.

FFF ZD infused w candied ginger. Pretty interesting. The sweetness from the candy really ramps up the malt profile, and the kick of ginger at the back end is really nice. French presses. Not just for coffee.

Went way outside of my usual comfort zone and honestly thoroughly enjoyed the experience Bluebird Bitter,Oude Gueuze and an 1809 Berliner.

I've lived in mid-Michigan all my life and I finally had my first Founder's Red Rye IPA tonight. I feel so foolish now waiting this long.

I hope everyone is making nice with their local stores for the release of KBS in the near future. I got a ticket to purchase 8 bottles from Founder's on Saturday. I look forward to getting my bottles but I feel like I will be walking into a hornet's nest that day.

Had a Founders BS tonight to pair nicely with my wife's home cooked dinner of Reubens, and well, more Reubens. :)

Been dabbling with beer more lately than I ever have. Had some Mother Earth Sin-Tax last night, really enjoy that stuff.

Upland Raspberry Lambic. Doesn't bring the funk like a trad lambic, but damned if the crazy fresh fruit quality doesn't nearly make up for it.

Sean, you shouldn't be surprised that an Indiana beer does well with the fruit. Hoosiers have always flocked to the sweet stuff whether it's wine or brandy or beer or mead. Only recently have the craft wineries started to put out decent dry reds and whites.

This is sweet to be sure, but plenty tart due to the awesome raspberry flavor, and has a nice dry, oak finish. Only thing missing is a bit more of that barnyard funk. Regardless, good on ya Hoosiers!

  • 2 weeks later...

Tonight it was another round of Prairie Vanilla Noir and Coffee Noir. No more messing around... Went straight to the blend this evening.

Picked up some local crafts today, Franconia Wheat and Martin House Rubberneck Red, the latter because I've been a rabid Toadies fan for the past 20 years. The beer might not be up my alley (it sounds hoppy, which I'm not a huge fan of), but I had to get a four-pack.

DFH 90 minute IPA never disappoints.

Never!

Tonight was a pair of Epic Hopulent and copious amounts of Deschutes Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale.

thanks to the urging/brow-beating by a certain SB member who spells his name in all capital letters, I bought and had my first Chillwave tonight. What an outstanding beer! Plenty of hops, citrus, a little bit of pine and something else I can't quite figure out. A great choice for when you want an double IPA with a little more kick

I had a bottle of Short's Superfluid, a double IPA, about a week ago. I initially described my first few sips of it just as you stated in your description above - from entry to finish it went plenty of hops, citrus, a little bit of pine and something else I couldn't figure out. Until the third sip. It was the pungent taste of marijuana. And each drink after that the dankness became evermore powerful. I didn't like it and I really had to choke down the last few swallows. I had always wondered what a dank IPA was and now I know.

Is that what you were picking up?
