On vacation this week so a trip down to the bunker is a perfect stay-cation activity.

I couldn't make up my mind between 2 Binny's selections.

The Four Roses Barrel Strength OESO or the OBSK.

I couldn't decide so I brought back up both to save myself a future trip down to the bunker.

Yeah it's only a half dozen steps or so but a man has to make every minute count even on stay-cation.

Not wishing to steer this thread off topic for too long, I'll say; "Thank You" to all the folks who expressed condolences and/or are thinking of doing so. No more are necessary.

Please know that Dad was a Bourbon fan all his life (having started out in Golden Pond KY), and is now enjoying all the pours that his Scottish nature wouldn't allow him to drink in life. He must be having a wonderful time up there. Again, Thanx!

I agree Thad. It is always necessary to share condolences in times of personal loss. Rich and Gary, I wish you and your family peace and pleasant memories. I too am drinking a "favorite" in your father/grandfather's honor...Smooth Ambler 8-Year Cask Strength. I am thinking about what fathers mean (or in my case, meant) in our lives.

TPS AAA, why oh why didn't I buy more of this. Second pour of Barterhouse getting some air while I enjoy the AAA. I like the Barterhouse, not sure if I like it $75 though.

Having 2 old bourbons tonight, Old Blowhard and JPS 25year Rye. Both are good, but I like the JPS better.

I had a very nice, and quite unique pour yesterday to unwind from dealing with the passing of my father in the wee small hours.
Enjoying a nice pour of Noah's Mill this evening. I'd also like to thank everyone for their condolences to Rich. I'm sure my grandpa is sucking up MORE than his fair share of the angel's share, and just hope he saves some for the rest of us!
My sincerest condolences to both of you. You seem to be dealing with it well, so I'm glad for that.

First glass since the Gazebo. :)
You're softer than church music.

Fitz BIB, deciding if it is worth bunkering amid the d/c rumors swirling about. Ya know, I think I prefer Larceny over it.

Give Tyler a break, he's not soft. Just full of Mammy's pancakes, beer and bourbon.:puke::puke::puke:

Rich and Gary, we only met briefly at the Gazebo, but I'll raise a glass of our 4R leftover blend in your father/grandfathers honor.

Moved onto a sample of dusty Old Forester BiB thanks to a fellow board member. Really great stuff!

I see that you're from Texas Tom. I reckon you'll understand what I mean when I say, "Ya ain't just a whistlin' Dixie." I totally agree with you. That Old Forester BIB is some darned good stuff.

Cheers! Joe

Working on a 50/50 blend of VSOF and Stagg Jr. Got a little carried away with the pour (at roughly four fingers), so wish me luck!

How is this one?

I'm having a 60:40 blend of Stagg Jr. and BT. I like Stagg Jr. just fine on it's own, but find this blend to be very approachable. The power of Jr. is present but the rough edges are smoothed out quite a bit. Further ratio experimentation is warranted.

Had some more of the 13-6 Bookers last night. I had not approached this bottle in about 2 weeks and I was very happy with how it had opened up in the bottle since my initial time with it. Very nice selection by the round table group.

Despite swearing off drinking another drop of bourbon after the gazebo, I was back at it again last night and things were tasting better than ever. I had a nice pour of 4R SB OBSK selected by Eric's store and a Virgin 7/101 gifted me by someone in Bardstown.

Toasting Mr. Lee with my first pour from his commemorative bottle. Really nice whiskey - just as every bottle of ETL I've ever owned has been :yum:

I'm in Pittsburgh for a conference and visited the Wigle distillery, where I got to try out a flight of whiskeys, along with a genever and a spiced spirit distilled from buckwheat honey. My favorite was the "deep cut rye", which is cask strength, double distilled (from a pot still made in Germany), and aged in 15 gallon barrels for a year in what appears to be a climate controlled room. They also have a regular rye, but this one differs not only in the proof but also in the cuts they take. For the "deep cut", they include more of the tails, I seem to remember, along with the hearts. Anyway, it's nice and oily with lots of fragrant notes, and the high strength covers the small barrel taste. It's only 57% at cask strength, indicating that it's a low proof off the still (duh).

Another good one was their wheater, offered at 46%. It, too, is aged only a year and in small barrels, so I expected sawdust hooey like I got with the SA Yearling. However, alongside the notable green wood junk, I got a really, really nice cinnamon flavor that belied its very young age. It was my second-favorite, but I bought the spiced buckwheat honey spirit instead for the wife and her girly girl girlfriends.

I really enjoyed this tasting. I expected to be disappointed but they are miles ahead of just about every microdistillery product I've sampled. Also, I was excited to see that they're doing 53 gallon barrel aging, too. Whew!

Having some WT101 8 year to start the evening. I must have been channeling squire this week as I got hung up on VOB6BiB all week. Figured it was time for a change.

It's wasn't a bad blend at all. The nose was a little confusing at first, but I could clearly distinguish the primary influence of each (hot ball cinnamon and wood), with the Jr. appearing to soften the wood influence of the 12 year VSOF, while the Fitz worked to tamp down the heat of the Jr. a bit.

I guess you could call it a flavor détente!

Long week. Having some generous pours of HHSS and Lot B while watching my Rangers take on the Penguins. Excellent bourbons, and the game is heading to OT.

A buddy stopped by and we finished off my bottle of FR 125th LE. Wow, I forgot how great this was. Wish I had another bottle now. Maybe I'll get something similar when we hit the distillery and gift shop later this year.
