Started off with some Medley Brothers 102 (MB102, OK, I've started the acronym...adjust as necessary), followed by a 9:1 ETL to OGD BiB. This ETL is weaker than previous bottles, and just a bit of OGD BiB gives it the lift it needs, almost like what the bottles a year ago were like.

The start of a four day weekend. I took off work today. Enjoying a nice pour of Weller Special Reserve 7-Year paper label, 1999 (Louisville). Darker and richer than the current stuff. A little butterscotch with a hint of cinnamon. Wanted to start with this since it is lower proof. I will look for something a little spicier for my next pour.

Barrel select McKenna 10, supposedly from the top level of the rickhouse. Like the owner said, a little bolder than others i have had, but a good expression nonetheless

My follow up pour was a 50:50 blend of Stagg Jr. and BT. The proof is 112. This tastes very much like an amped up CEHT SmB. I really like it!

Killed the last of the Bulliet 10 (not that sad to see it go).

Following up with some OGD 114

FR SB PS OBSF 10 yrs 8 mo at 124.5 proof. A Rutledge spice bomb. The distillery description is "minty, fruity, spicy full body". Definitely agree with the last two. With a bit of the floral FR signature on the finish/aftertaste.

Pulled into Destin, FL and picked up a Knob Creek for the first time in a very long time, mainly because it was 100 proof and the store's selection sucked. This is a lot better than I remember. Really hitting the spot.

interesting blind tasting of regular ETL, GBS ETL (courtesy of a fellow GBS member), and ETL Comm. Both of us preferred the commemorative but the GBS selection was a very close 2nd for me (well done guys!). Always fun doing blind tastings...my wife has become a professional and now uses a dry erase marker to label the bottles and the glasses to keep everything straight.

My palate is having an off night. I poured some Ezra Brooks on a cube and it didn't hit the spot, so I doused it with ginger ale and that's tasting pretty good.

Someone please stop me. I am going back for another pour of FR SiB private selection from Yankee Spirits, OESK, Nov 13. I got this bottle because the barrel was right next to the one my friend bought at the FR gift shop.

Well, I bought it for him. I wasn't smart enough to buy one of my favorites (OESK) for myself. The ones I bought for myself (OESV, OESO) were ones I hadn't tried before - I was trying to "branch out".

Well, after I tasted my friend's OESK bottle, I loved it. I went on a hunt for more. A co-enthusiast found the Yankee Spirits selection, the barrel next to the gift shop barrel. I got two bottles. The first one took a serious dent tonight!

Drank a mystery dram this evening. Myself and a co-worker have just started trading small sample bottles of mystery pours. Samples can be anything from cheap budget bourbons to limited releases. No hints provided. The truth is in the taste buds.......do you like it or don't you?

The mystery sample tasted old to me.......I picked up oak and tannins that reminded me of JPS 21 so I'm guessing it's EC21. I'm now waiting to find out what it is.

Another night with the Oregon bartender guild picked FR BP Obsk. Tastes like what I want bourbon to taste like, big, spicy, sweet. Wish I knew how old it was.

Last night it was a back forth between Baby Zaz and 4RYL. Love em both.

Since it's a little early to try the WTRB 112.8 neat having some in my coffee, yum, yum.

I think I have the same bottle, bought from Yankee Spirits in MA - is yours 9yr 9 mos, 55.5%, w/h KW, barrel # 89-1I? If so, I guess I know what I'm opening next!

Brings up a question: I would have thought when a store selects a barrel, they buy the bottles from all the barrels. Does FR hold some back for their gift shop at times, or perhaps when a store does not buy the entire barrel?

That's the same bottle as what I was drinking last night. :-) The gift shop bottle was warehouse KW, barrel 89-1H.

I haven't heard of someone buying a private selection not getting the whole barrel.
