I'm putting together plans for my family's summer vacation (June 7-15). Our main destination is Niagara Falls but our homeward swing will be down through western NY to Pittsburgh, then to Charleston WV before driving the length of KY as we head back to Missouri. I plan to stay our final night in the Frankfort area and have some sites I want to hit: Labrot & Graham (Woodford was my first bottle of top shelf stuff I ever bucked-up to get)... Want to take pics at the Old Taylor & Old Crow locations (Old Taylor was our bourbon of choice back in college and will always have a soft spot for it)... Then hopefully hit Buffalo Trace as well. What other locations in the area should I consider as well?

For my stop at the Old Taylor and Old Crow site, is there anything I should be aware of before hand? My intention is to simply stop long enough to snap some photos and maybe shed a quick tear for a site that should be restored and in use. I'd love to see more of the site than just the view from the road, but unless I'm lucky enough to have security stop and offer to show me around I'm guessing that's not gonna happen. Oh well, I'll be content with some good pics and standing outside the castle!

Thanks for any advice you all can provide!!

At the Old Taylor site it's strictly pictures from the road it would be nice if they restored it. As for the old Crow site not much to see but some old rickhouses that are still in use by Jim Beam I think. Don't push your luck at either site. And don't drive a Ford Excursion down those roads

No, as much as I'd love to get an inside look at the Old Taylor castle and complex, I have no interest in "pushing my luck" with any questionable activities... Not a big fan of trespassers and so I honor others property as well.

The Old State Capitol in Frankfort is a cool little site but not specifically bourbon related. There's a nice booze & sandwich place across the street from it too. Capital Cellars, I think it's called.

Wild Turkey and Four Roses are not far from Frankfort. Both may be worth at least driving by. Four Roses b/c of its beautiful unusual Spanish architecture, and Wild Turkey for the nice view on the bridge over the Kentucky River.

There is a cemetery up on a bluff overlooking Frankfort and the Kentucky River. Daniel Boone is buried there. It's worth the visit. There's also the Rebeca Ruth Candy factory in Frankfort.

We just did a trip including Frankfort. Woodford grounds were nice, we also did hard hat tour at BT, and took time to tour the KY state capital.

I'd like to give a little more endorsement for Capital Cellars, which is the trifecta of liquor store, bar, and restaurant. Good bourbon selection, very nice people. Also nearby is Poor Richard's Books, a real honest-to-God independent (and idiosyncratic) book store. Downtown Frankfort has a lot of charm and lots of historic homes and such.
