TLH-Mike
Tried a recipe I saw in a recent Yahoo article. Doing my part to be a better Southerner, I made some peanut infused simple syrup, and mixed it with bourbon and coke. Was awesome. Anyone else try this? Boulevardier
I've done it a couple times. It's not a bad idea, but I tend to think that the original Tallulah recipe is just too sweet. I guess you could reduce the peanut orgeat, but I always compensate by increasing the amount of bourbon. If you compare this (1.75oz bourbon, or Jack, as the original recipe would have it, 1oz orgeat, and then coke) to other drinks that use orgeat (tiki drinks, for instance) the proportions look out of whack on the sweet side. I'm not sure how I'd "fix" it other than to make it more booze-heavy or perhaps find some smoky bitters to help cut the sweetness. Perhaps muddling some lime would help. Hmmm...Back to the lab!
