camduncan
Got inspired by the great food at the Sampler, and decided to try something new.... I broke out the Makers Mark cookbook, and found a real simple recipe for bourbon soaked dates. It's fairly basic - soak some pitted dates in bourbon for 24 hours, drain, stuff with pieces of pecan nut (or any nut you prefer) and roll in sugar. Refigerate and serve when needed. They are very sweet, are very tasty, but you definitely need to use a bourbon you prefer. The dates really soak it up, and when you bite into them, you get a small explosion of date flavoured bourbon. I used a cheaper one I'm trying to get rid of, and while they taste good, a better bourbon would have made a difference IMO...
