Getting to be my philosophy as well. Can't boycott everybody so I have to shop around at several stores. Prices seem to make no sense to me. One store will be high on one thing that another store has at a fairly regular price and then just down the shelf the other store has a high price on something that is regular price at the first store. Frustrating.

I do try to gently let my preferred store know when they have a price that seems out of whack. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. On everyday things a lot depends on the volume they can afford to buy so if you work with a smaller store sometimes you just have to accept slightly higher prices in return for better customer service that I usually get at a place where I can really get to know the owner and staff..

yet another reason to boycott BT products as a whole. A message needs to be sent (and received). I nearly grabbed an OC101 today, but then thought this and left it there. there is nothing about CEHT SmB that warrants $40, let alone $52.

Every time I go to one store I pass up a lone bottle of RHF for $49 not knowing if it's a fair price. Any advice?

That's as good of a price as I've seen on it around here.

It's a fair price. When it was on shelves semi-regularly it could be had for low $40s but the few times I've seen it in the past year it's been in the mid $50s.

Not bourbon but close enough and rather proud of myself today. Saw the Willett XCF today (a six pack in fact) and passed with extreme prejudice. It didn't hurt that they were charging $200 for it or that a person who had bought one of the first two they had received (apparently it isn't flying off the shelves...), a big spender at the store according to the staff, had come back and said it was the worst thing he had ever tried and was going to write a letter to Willett to complain!

Just for good measure and to reinforce my ongoing Willett boycott I also passed on the $70 6yo MGP rye that should be more like $50 at most. Yes, I know the Redemption BP rye is also more than $50 (about $55-60 last time I saw one) but that is overpriced too as far as I am concerned.

I stocked up on RHF at $45 when it came back in stock here in NJ recently. Then passed on more bottles at around $43, but just bought one more at $42. It has become one of my favorites, so can't hurt to have another. People routinely pay $50 for Blanton's, and since I find RHF to be Blanton's on steroids, I'd say that $50 for a bottle of RHF is reasonable.

I am curious as to the "estimated" age differences between ETL, RHF and Blanton's. I realize they are aged in different warehouses and selected based on a "profile" but I am just curious.

I passed on Bulleit Rye @ $39.99. :slappin: It was in the same store that had regular Saz @ $59.99 last time I was there!

Passed on PHC at $299, Willett 6 yr at $79 and a bunch of High West MWND at $89. Really want to try that Parkers but....

I passed on EC23 for "just" $244.95. It was a store I have never been to before and the woman worked very hard to sell me on it being a great deal.

Thanks to you and everyone else for the thumbs up to finally grab this.

Howdy,

Passed on Old Forester Signature. Instead I spent $5 more for Elijah Craig 12 yr.( Which I've never tried). So far, EC 12 isn't worth the extra $5. YMMV.

I passed on a local store select OBSO (10yr, 1 mo, 113.4 proof) at $60. I guess that is what to expect going forward for these, but it isn't one of the two recipes I'm missing (although the OBSO I have is one of my favorites).

Passed on about 20 ETL's at my go to shop. Binny's has it also but, at least at the Oak Brook store, it was squirled away out of sight in the locked rare & collectible room (that was over a week ago, so don't jump in your cars without calling)

Passed on a Willett XCS for around $125, best price I've seen on it so far but still seems a bit gimmicky to me and not worth a C note.

Passed on a bottle of Barrel Bourbon batch 1, bottle 5. Picked up a bottle of Elmer T. Lee because I've been wanting to sample some for quite a while now (it's superb). This stuff seems to be very hard to come by in my area and I'm wondering if maybe I should pick up a few more bottles. The owner also said that he is unable to get more.

You know things are bad when even WT Forgiven has gone up in price! Wasn't it closer to $40 originally?

And it seems to have a new livery for the swanky cardboard tube.

I was not taken in by the new look.

It was always $59 here and there still may be some left on the shelves. There is still plenty of $159 Diamond here.
